Trading while trying to lose weight on Atkins

  1. I am just so happy I made a decision....I am a creature of habit. When I get accustomed to this I will not have a problem with this diet. I have just been on a long stint.

That ice cream while watching the TV craving must stop or at least more moderate amounts. Sugar is not a good thing in mass quanities.

That Low carb beer is nice (Michelob Ultra) after you get used to it....its not that much lower in carbs though...I think its just a few grams less than regualr beer.

I started this diet on May 26 and so far have lost around 40lbs. I clock in at 197 now, so about 15lbs to go. Prolly woulda been more except I am resuming the semblance of an exercise routine, so am creating muscle density as I go. I sure feel a lot better.

Still am unable to determine what cause(s/d) the headaches though. I had them for the first several days and chalked them up to lack of caffeine, while also knowing over 90% of headaches are the result of dehydration. Even so, my fluid intake has been substantial, and about six weeks into the diet the headaches returned for a few days.

main thing my doc said, to help lower weight and improve good cholesterol, was avoid the "white" foods:

    less of:
    white rice
    white bread
    potatoes
    refined sugar
    etc..

and add niacin and exercise (agh)..

I went to a commercial MRI scanning place and got a full-body scan, it's great to see everything's ok inside, cross section of yourself from top to bottom... highly recommended..

Man, I just stumbled upon an idea for an extremely low-carb bread; I mean less than 6g for a whole loaf. I'm going to do some experimenting first, but once I pull this off I'm definitely drumming up investors.

The standard low-carb bread atm is about 5 bucks a loaf and 4g per slice. Oh yeah, I smell some $$ headed my way...

Andre. Wallgreens always has the bars and the shakes on sale for 3 for $5. They also have sales on the chocolate bars every so often.

Atkins makes their own ice cream in single servings that is out of this world. Bob makes home made sugarless ice cream for me and we freeze it in single portions.

  6. Andre,

You live in Portland, OR right? Trader Joes has these for about $1.79 per bar.

If sweets are a problem, ice cream and cheesecake may save your life, though you'll have to get acquainted with Splenda, and you'll be limited to plain, citrus, spice, and berry flavors. If anybody needs help with recipes and/or cooking techniques, let me know.

You may also be able to find a line of hard candies put out by Sweet 'n Low and sold by some grocery stores. Very reasonable.

  8. Michael:

Just remember to work out as well for optimum effect....The Atkins turns your body into a fat burning machine and you can increase the effect by doing some running, weightlifting ect...while your on it...also...coffee is a no no...because caffeine spurs the production of insulin which will take the low carb foods and store it for later anyway....go for a brisk walk/jog in the morning to get going instead of the coffee...i know it sucks...i drink about 8-10 cups per day.....i go on low carb diets for about 4-5 days just to get some definition and to clean out my system from the crap I inhale....but once you lose the weight, use exercise/weight training to keep it off and use the low carb only if you feel a little flabby/bloated ect...
    good luck

  9. I do not know if someone have mentioned it here before but major cause of intra arterial buildup is inflammation of arteries which can occur at any level of cholesterol in blood . IMO inflammation of arteries is caused by overly acidic body chemistry and overall calcium and potassium deficiency.
You have to pay attention to your body PH levels .
