  1. I believe in the Atkins but in truth Ive only done it twice to shed 5lbs in 3 -4 days so i can have a six pack of abs for the beach ( I work out a lot)....I have read with interest all the pros and cons and I recently read where there is a serious heath crisis about these diets.....NOT THE ATKINS ......The gov't' 'Pyramid of Health" that stresses 1) Low fat, 2) high carb diets and lots of low fat food.....In a recent study the AMA admitted that on AVERAGE people who adhered to this diet plan and also eliminated red meats and cheese......HAD THEIR cholesterol LEVEL RISE....in addition...they GAINED on AVG about 30 LBS.....WHile the ATKINS people eating Pizza cheese, steak , eggs and bacon....lost more weight ADN REDUCED THEIR cholesterol LEVEL......This is only the beginning....One person interviewed suggested that since 1973 the Government has been sponsoring and endorsing the pyramid health and put in regulations on food makers to make thing s'cholesteral free' and fat free ect.....and he believes this will turn into the next Tobacco type class action suit...Lawyers will begin suing the US Dep of Health ans Surgeon General for BAd information..

Ok PussyCat...I see what you are driving at. Ketosis is a bad state to be in for prolonged periods of time. Yup it is.
I try and avoid being in it for a long period of time by eating just enough carbos to lose weight, but not to be in ketosis for more than a couple of weeks when I start the diet.

  3. NO DIET should be forever...If you read what atkins said to do, after you lose the weight, you slowly intorduce carbs back in....and regulate the amount you eat after that because it is the SUGAR levels we take in that is causing OBESITY and DIABETES...did you know that there is about 1 cup of sugar in:
    1) Bowl of Pasta
    2) A coke
    3) Glass of Orange juice
    4) 2 slices of toast with jam on it

we all think they are 'different" but once they are conusumed your body breaks down these complex carbs into ....SUGAR..and unless you work out alot or count your calories....yoru body will jusrt store this sugar for later if it is not needed.

  4. I went to a store here on the west coast named Trader Joes. I purchased chocolate and strawberry Atkins Shakes. They are delicious and satisfying. I thik there might be smething with this low carb thing....I am full of energy and no full feeling at all in my stomach. I feel hyperactive and shakey.

To begin my diet, I am starting with 3 a day plus one dinner before 18:00.

6:00 pacific time Coffee (can't do without it)
    8:00 Atkins chocolate shake
    11:00 Atkins chocolate shake
    14:00 Atkins strawberry shake
18:00 Dinner anything I want keep it moderate portion

Now I know all you Gurus will have something to say...but its a miracle I am dieting and don't screw with me......cause I need to get in the mindset and improve later.

Michael...that is great. Go for it!
You might want to try the Atkins Advantage bars. I like the Peanut Butter and the Apple Crisp ones the best, but truthfully they are all very good. :) :)

I just wish those Atkins bars and such weren't so spendy. Sheesh.

Still, been on Atkins a little over a week. I was head-achy a couple of days. But was drinking lotsa water. I like that I'm not hungry. But I still do crave some sweets. We've been pretty good during the induction stage. The only thing we've done is get the Atkin Peanut Butter cups twice.

The hardest thing is not being able to eat a carrot or fruit at this time. We also forgot to weigh ourselves and take measurements at the beginning. I don't know that I've lost much weight, but I feel better. If I've lost any weight, it's been 2-3 pounds.

Now, we're working on cooking with more variety.
