I thought Saber demonstrated some good insight with his price action examples. So... I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now. Maybe he'll stop by with an update.

Perhaps saber realized much sooner than many that there is zero to be gained from journaling at this particular public message board. It is easier to stick to one's path if one isn't at the same time exposing oneself as a target to message board cranks. If one has a consistently profitable trading plan, then the best one can do for him- or herself and his or her family is to shut the hell up and trade it. In My Opinion.

To be fair, I don't think he got much aggressiveness from people here. It's not as if there was an actual reason to believe he was targeted by people for any reason.

I agree. I think (though I may be wrong) that saber saw what I saw - how potentially disruptive to one's focus on sticking to one's path the questions, critiques, and second-guessing of even friendly participants could be to the trader. And given the free reign of terror that certain trolls have unleashed on price action traders in the journal section of ET, perhaps saber quit knowing that the free for all could not be far behind.

I found keeping a trading journal incredibly helpful as I was learning to trade, and I still keep it up daily - charts, notes, blotters, etc. But I never journaled publicly. From jump street I thought it would not be a god idea until I felt I had established myself to a level of self-confidence and self-assessed competence.

The real question is what would saber hope to gain from this exercise that could not be gained on his own, in private, with perhaps a mentor or two to turn to with questions. Saber seemed to be doing quite well. I do not know if he had a mentor, but I suspect he did/does, and if so, saber would appear to be in good hands.

At least some of this arises from the fact that there is a general confusion about trading journals and trading logs. Trading journals are about the journey (journal? journey?) and whoever begins and maintains the journal in public does so in the hope that interested observers will make helpful comments from time to time, provide water, a banana, thus helping him on the journey.

Instead, there are nearly immediate demands for "real-time calls" and, just in case the journalist posts a winning trade, proof that the trade was made and copies of brokerage statements and so on. But even if the trader is maintaining a log rather than a journal, who cares what he posts? If he wants to create some sort of fiction, why not? Who suffers? The troll, however, is outraged that someone might be successful where he is not. Hence the demands, etc.

If Baron's experiment proves to be successful, all that may change. I hope so. Traders who are trying to learn are isolated enough as it is.

    Hi,

All is going well here. Because of lack of time and some comments made in the journal I decided to not continue my journal here. There was no benefit for me because I got some bad comments about trading CL for a beginner and some questions about why not enter at blabla.... There is a big difference between looking at a market live or looking at it after the fact! I did not like some comments and was worried about the fact that they could harm me.

I have a plan and I just have to execute it and cut off all distraction.

    Good Trading,

i960, sorry but I did not like your posts at all. You judged me after the first day I posted my trades here, I could just lie but in trading you cannot lie to yourself so If I loose I loose If I win I win.

    Good luck with your trading.

Indeed! This is the source for about 90% of the arguments on ET!
We have lots of gurus who are experts at looking at static charts and telling you what you should have done earlier in the day, but none who can do it in real time, as it just ain't the same game!! :)

Fair enough and I could see how you might not have liked them. My only recommendation is that here on ET (and in general) you have to have a thick skin. Don't listen to people if you don't agree not because you don't want to hear it but because you believe in yourself. The converse is that if a forum becomes to happy touchy feely it will lose criticality. I'm not saying it should be a warzone, but there's a grey area in-between that's reasonable.

I was going to say "maybe you should join BMT" but then realize you got banned from there. Too funny. BMT is a perfect example of where iron fisted control of a forum's attitude and interactions goes wrong. One of the things I appreciate about Baron and ET is that he generally allows people to take care of themselves and handle their own business without playing parent. When people get ridiculous / out of control then a mod usually steps in.

After this weekend you'll be able to block people on your Ignore list from posting to your journal. I hope you'll give it another shot.
