Trading Technologies Sues Peregrine Financial Group

    Wed Jul 20, 2005 04:39 PM ET

CHICAGO, July 20 (Reuters) - Software company Trading Technologies ("TT") has targeted Chicago-based futures trading firm Peregrine Financial Group ("PFG") in a patent infringement lawsuit. Trading Technologies said in the suit that Peregrine and its software developer, TradeMaven LLC of Los Angeles, offer a trading platform that knowingly infringes on one of TT's U.S. patents. Trading Technologies requested a preliminary and permanent injunction against Peregrine and TradeMaven, as well as unspecified damages. A spokesman for Trading Technologies said the firm would not comment further at this point.

Peregrine's chairman, Russell Wasendorf Sr., told Reuters the firm's legal team was "looking at courses of action" regarding the suit. "We have no intention of settling. We are convinced we are not in violation of their patent," Wasendorf said.

TT has received patents from the U.S., UK and European patent offices for its MD Trader product, an order-entry system that displays market depth via a ladder-like display on an electronic trading screen. Harris Brumfield, chief executive officer of TT, estimates that over 50 percent of electronic volume on the world's top four futures markets goes through the company's X_Trader order entry platform, which incorporates MD Trader.

In December, TT asked the four biggest futures marts for a slice of their revenues in return for protection from patent lawsuits. The exchanges have not complied, but in the meantime TT has pursued other futures and options software providers. Patsystems plc (PTS.L: Quote, Profile, Research) and NinjaTrader LLC are among the firms that have recently settled with Trading Technologies and agreed to pay royalties to license MD Trader. Last week TT cut off New York-based Refco Inc.'s access to its trading screens after the huge futures broker refused to admit that one of its trading systems infringed on TT's patents.

    Attention all Patsystems Users

As a result of the settlement agreement between Patsystems and Trading Technologies, Patsystems DOME software will not be offered or supported after August 12th, 2005. Patsystems has agreed to replace their Dome product with a new product called Reflector. All GHCO customers will need to move from DOME to Reflector by this date.

  5. Unfortunately this is the end of the line for me with jtrader. Their new software is a major resource hog and reflector is junk.
It's hard to understand the thinking that goes into this type of software developement. Honestly, get a clue and listen to what traders have to say.

NinjaTrader Joins Trading Technologies Partner Programme

    Published: 09 August 2005

Trading Technologies International, Inc. (TT) and NinjaTrader, LLC today announced that NinjaTrader has joined TT's Partner Program.

NinjaTrader's trading platform, also called NinjaTrader, will connect to TT's exchange gateways though TT's FIX Adapter. The NinjaTrader/TT integrated solution will mark the first time that TT's gateways will be available to the retail marketplace.

NinjaTrader has applied for TT Edge Certified Partner status and is expected to receive this designation when conformance testing is completed this month. Conformance testing will check various aspects of the application's performance including connection, execution speeds, order rates and application redundancy to test for overall speed, reliability and stability.

"This partnership with NinjaTrader will provide Trading Technologies with additional access to the thriving retail market, and it brings the power of TT's gateway technology to a large community of retail traders. The NinjaTrader platform is one of the most-used retail solutions in the industry and we are pleased to be associated with the company," said Alvin Tanpoco, TT Partner Program director.

"Integration to TT's FIX Adapter is in line with our strategy to broaden support to all leading exchange connectivity providers," said Raymond Deux, CEO of NinjaTrader. "TT's exchange gateways have proven to lead the industry in speed and reliability for professional traders and we are excited to be the first ISV to provide this connectivity option to the retail trader."

TT's exchange gateways provide connectivity to the world's leading markets including the CBOE Futures Exchange, Chicago Board of Trade, Chicago Mercantile Exchange, Eurex, Eurex US, Euronext.liffe, Frankfurt Stock Exchange (Xetra), IntercontinentalExchange, International Petroleum Exchange and Montréal Exchange. In addition, TT will soon launch connections to Hotspot FX and the New York Mercantile Exchange.

The TT Partner Program, which launched on July 6, 2005, facilitates relationships with third-party developers that integrate TT's technology with their products. The TT Partner Program provides third party ISVs with development support, certification testing, sales and marketing assistance and other resources to help them create and market their products. Such products might include analytic platforms, trading and strategy development frameworks, black box systems, and algorithmic and multi-broker execution platforms.
