Ok... One thing we all forget to consider with win/loss (which you are) is the frequency of a stop being hit before the target.. varies a lot depending on system.. I don't care what anyone says.. frequent stop outs is a scheme to generate commissions that I doubt works long-term for the trader. You've got to trade in the right location, right direction, AND let the trade breathe, AND let it run for long enough to counter the losses.. I am yet to put these all together.. but it is THE holy grail. Hope you are around for a long while to see how it goes.
yea, i mean i'm only papertrading so i'd like to try this idea out, refine it, tweak it, post my results, and get some feedback. my desire would be to (1) define a strategy with risk limits and (2) trade it for a while (maybe, 50 round turns?), and take a look at the stats and go from there. also, anyone use intraday data source? i'm considering eoddata.com, but they only granulate down to 1 minute bars. which i could backtest on, but i'd prefer at least 1 second granulation.
and your previous post, essentially, sounds like i need to allow for volatility (widen stops), but let the trade breathe (ensure expectation). the trick is to figure out a way to dynamically adjust both (i think). i'd be fine making a tick per trade, as long as there were 1mn opportunities to trade per year.
