Trading Off the News Wall Street firms are working with XML news feeds that turn news events into data signals. Will the next set of algorithms be based on news feeds? http://www.wallstreetandtech.com/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=185302817
Sounds very conceptual and speculative at this point. I'm not surprised that Google is entering the field given their success at quantifying qualitative information. It will be some time before these technologies are practical enough for retail traders...
Hard to imagine this is not already being done. I've mentioned it in the past, and this is not really a new idea.
really? i hate the news...it is often misleading and does th eopposite of what i expect. when i stopped paying attention to the news...i started making a lot more money!
What algorithm is going to decide whether the news is bullish or bearish, and/or is already discounted by the movement in the stock? Ridiculous. OldTrader
Yeah, well , how do the black boxes trade against you all day and kick yer scrawny? The whole deal is a program can analyse the news and react before you even see the headline. They love it when you think they don't have an edge.
