Another guy states the obvious with some real nice examples http://mixedmartialblog.com/a-very-short-history-of-brazilian-jiu-jitsu/
Bar fights, parking lot fights, club fights, and mugged twice. No longer living in bad neighborhoods, woo hoo.
You guys seem to have some absurd misconception that a bjj guy is not allowed to throw a single punch or something. Do you know *anything* about it??? Seriously. BJJ was tested in Vale Tudo for along time before MMA became popular and yes BJJ guys strike, although crappy compared to someone who focuses on striking. Strikers cant grapple worth a damn too. Obvious huh? Whats the point? They will still drop you on your head and sub you in seconds if you dont know grappling.
Ok, I'm really not trying to start a fight, but my point is that using MMA or any other "sport" to say one style is the best is probably not very practical. I'd have no problem stipulating that a dedicated tai chi guy is going to get his ass beat by a fairly ho hum boxxer, that any half ass decent street fighter would beat the hell out of a dedicated aikido guy (in the ring or on the street). But, if you take a great BJJ guy, put him in the alley against five muggers and the only skill he has is BJJ, he will be lucky to make it out (of course so would anyone else), but thinking his BJJ skills gave him any kind of advantage would be a huge mistake, because in this case he needs to desperatly try to stay off the ground.
yes but.... what about those grand Qigong Masters that can project their chi energy and attack opponents from a distance?? You would agree such a style would beat all others, right?...... here's a clip... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGaWhP4lbys
Do you know what the expression "Vale Tudo" means in Portuguese? Do you know the history of BJJ and that Maeda was a Judo Ne Waza expert? Do you know anything about the Luta livre and BJJ history of Brazil? You seem delusional and ignorant at the same time. Styles are just bullshit. You need to know anything and everything to win a fight - even how to run or talk, psychology.
I basically agree with you, but saying he has no advantage isnt quite true. Any style is going to get destroyed by 5 guys. So then it comes down to, who has the best chance of avoiding being dragged to the ground and stomped? An avg guy has no chance. A grappler with a strong base will be the hardest to take down, which gives him at least a little bit more edge in running like hell. He is also the best at escaping the ground and standing back up to run. A boxer has a better chance than an avg guy too since *if* he has room to maneuver can throw some stiff jabs and buy a few seconds to run. A Krav Maga guy probably has the best chance, since they actually train being bum rushed by 10 guys and blasting out. But 9/10+++ times, youre getting your ass beat no matter what you know.
Actually, "everything goes". bjjtrader, Krav Maga is mostly bullshit for normal people in my view, and for professionals - they need to be open minded.
Know??? I eat and breathe this stuff, the history included. Do you know what Fusen Ryu is and how it relates to judo and bjj? Do you what the difference between judo and JJJ was back when Kano was forming Judo? Luta Livre - do you know why it was almost forgotten? Please....
