  2. Funny memory reading this thread.

My brother and I are both brown belts in BJJ. My best friend is a 3 degree(I think) black belt in TKD. My brother and him had a match one time, there was nothing to it. My friend was out in less than 90 seconds.

BJJ is very practical. Its so important to practice over and over until your techniques are flawless.

  4. How effective is BJJ when you are being attacked by 2 people? Can you take both of them to the ground and choke them out?

  5. This is really when you need to rely on your experience. But yes, I feel comfortable that if I was attacked by two peeps I could very well defend myself...given they don't have a gun. LOL

  6. you all are talking about the same old bullshit that everyone was talking about 15 yrs ago before mma took off.

Since then, the sport has evolved.... just like bjj took out all other styles in the beginning, now, it too has no change if its the sole discipline some one brings into the cage. If the last several yrs have taught us anything, is that todays winners mastered several fighting styles, morphed into one unique combination that fits the person using it.

You could be real good at 2 or even three styles, and get your ass kicked in the first round if you do not know how to incorporate them together to overcome your opponent.

There's going to be a match between Cung Le (San Chou) vs. anderson silva coming soon, it's going to be an exciting fight; I like to see martial arts evolve and it's becoming evident that a stand up fighter can be as affective against a grappler if he has a decent take down defense.

This is the draw back of a grappler, typically you would rather be on your feet against two opponents than on the ground where as a Japanese Jiujitsu guy can take out 2 opponents on his own. I always thought that BJJ is good for the mma sport but no doubt it's not the ultimate tool for self defense.

  9. Again it would all depend on how the event played itself out. I can defend myself on my feet as well. My dad was in the special forces so there are many things I learned from him. For me, I would take one of them out as quick as possible.

Learned BBJ so I wouldn't have to fight, you know?

Interesting thread even tho I know nothing about martial arts.
When I was a kid I had 4 brothers and I was the youngest.
We were poor and our main entertainment was wrestling.

Several months ago I got caught up in a brawl in an alley, friends of mine were attempting to restrain a big young guy who was high in ice and smashing cars.

My first instinct was to jump in and fight which I did, the guy was extremely strong and 3 of us has him down, took about 20 minutes for the cops to arrive.

Made me think not to try that again as I’m nearly 60 years old.

But I think the point the OP is making is that discipline and technique and practice and studying the opponent (market) is what a lot of trading is about.
