A movie producer bet Thomas Peterffy $10,000, chair of interactive brokers, that he could not turn a famous black actor into an options market maker on the Amex floor. Thomas Peterffy won the bet and the movie producer went on to make Trading Places.

Cannot post the Titans series here. Search on YouTube for Titans: The rise of Wall Street. Series of eight economic history docudramas focused on personalities recently delisted from Amazon Prime.

Investor here...This pertains to the first few minutes of this video.

I use a similar (but more boring) premise...Wait for a solid company (that has a wide moat), have a bad quarter. Buy the stock...Maybe do a leap (way out of the money...Because it may take a couple quarters to turn it around).

    Nothing magical about this...

I first saw this (and used it) working as a subcontractor at a Hershey plant.

I told a manager, "the plant is falling apart". He said, "yeah, but we'll make our quarter with gum and duck tape"!!

He then told me to buy right after the earnings of the following quarter...

What they were doing (and still do) is make their quarters for bonus payouts. The next quarter will be very bad. All the experts believe Hershey's will exceed in the following quarter with a better one...They won't.

After they make a quarter, they throw tens of millions of dollars into repairs, deferred maintenance, and replacement of key systems!!

Hershey employees have done a wash rinse repeat for 20-30 years...

Over the years, some stocks I have bought after a bad quarter...

Microsoft, Duke Energy, IBM, Century Communities, Walmart, McDonald's, Budget/Avis, Chewy, Chevron, Blackstone...I could go on.

Add a disaster (large moat) with a bad quarter...Move in!!
