Trading KOSPI option contract just like a futures contract

Hmmm. If anyone is planning on trading the options the problem will be maintaining charting for whichever option is being the most actively traded as it will switch around.

Anyone got any input on this? (he asks hopefully)

trade it by charting a particular option? that's a new one to me. looking that future should be good enough. On IB the symbol is K200.

Don't know if you've been following it today but the market was up a staggering 3.6%. (10+ options turned over).

    Here's a basic question...

Which data set do I subscribe to? I typed in K200 and got the subscribe box, the only options for me were non-Korean?

via the acct management login from the web site you need to subscribe to Korea, ditto for trading permissions. Did you look there? (US residents will not have the choice until CFTC approval is granted).

  5. def,

maybe I should pose my questions to you - I really need to get a chart going:

I already signed up for trading permissions and data access 11/21, and I got a status of Approved (I'm Canadian). Now the next question is how do I chart the KOSPI? I am using Ensign-IB.

If I am already approved for data access, shouldn't I be able to chart it in Ensign? What is the correct symbol, say for the Dec2005 futures: is it K200 Z5-KSE? I tried using this symbol in Ensign, but I get a message saying no refresh available for this symbol. Is this a matter of Ensign updating something so they can chart KOSPI? Or does my data access take a few days to be effective?

also, what do you mean by 10+ options turned over? do these KOSPI options get exercised right away once they're ITM?

    thanks,
    wavetrader

Thanks def. I'm probably not seeing the Korea option because I'm a US resident.

I left out the word million. so 10+ was meant to say that over 10 million contracts traded yesterday.

I can not assist with Ensign and suggest you contact them. They may not support the product yet. Until then, within the TWS you can chart. The IB charts work well and are quite good in the latest release. (on the TWS tools, daily charts, etc).

Your questions on exercise assignment tells me that you haven't read the market specs. I don't mean to single you out but before trading any contract I urge read them before trading. Kospi options are european and cash settled. Therefore there is no early exercise risk.

    Def,

Is there a date on CFTC approval? Is it even in the hopper?

If I am non us-resident and have access to the kospi, would I still have this if connected to your server while in the us? Is it ip based? I have only got strikes up to 175 for dec. Should there be more strikes? I don't have a value for the index in option trader either. is it actually available to trade yet? thanks for your help this is perfect for insomniacs in europe!

I have never seen out of the money options 1 cent wide, and several thousand lots on the bid and offer. The 175 strike is trading but the volume column is blank for both dec and jan.
