I have lived in and traded Rawai for two months and now Patong for two months. I trade 1 - 3 min timeframes as well as EOD. Rawai is in the middle of nowhere and you need a motorbike to get anywhere (about $3 a day). The adsl internet I used there was awfull - droped out all the time. You have to use a GPRS mobile phone to exit trades when it dies - admittedly it does make you a better trader. Now in Patong I use a different adsl company - not quite as bad but still slow (less than diallup some days). Quite OK for the US session. Have not had to use the gprs to exit trades. Would I recommend trading here? EOD - hell yes. Above 5 min time frame - OK. Under 3 min - nope Last
exactly my experience and opinion! Lived also in the Phillipines (6 years) and a year in Bali. Even when you speak the local lingo in Bali you will still not be accepted, spoke to a number of expats married to local girls there. Philippines is more forgiving, if you know where to go and how to keep costs down. Can be very expensive and the corruption in these countries is another issue. I also lived 2 years in Hong Kong and know my way arround there. If done properly you do not spend much more than in the Philippines. But Singapore is my favourite. People are far nicer there than in HK. (generally speaking) And it is nicely in the centre - you can go in the weekends to all kind of interesting places. Did love South Korea - was on an assignement there for 5 months. But like someone mentioned before: do not get involved with the local girls. Her own family will disown her if they know she sees a foreigner. But it was the safest country to be in, by a mile. vital analitics

I've enjoyed your discussion a lot, guys. It really gives a flavour for what it is like, living in Thailand. I've lived around the world and have been interested in staying in Southeast Asia someday, so I appreciate the comments.

The key is to have a strategy that you trust that will provide for you over time. Then you can live anywhere. All the Thai based traders posting here and the original poster - are you consistently pulling money out of the markets? (and how?) If so, then the rest is details.
