If anyone's interested in starting a prop firm out there here's part of the email from eurex

Membership mentioned refers to direct membership of companies not individuals, requirements can be found here

    http://www.eurexchange.com/trading/exchange_membership/non_clearing_en.html

"Thank you for our conversation and your interest in becoming a direct Eurex member.

I'm pleased to inform you that we have a specific incentive program for new members. The initiative exempts all new participants admitted in 2007 from both the minimum transaction fee and transaction fees of up to €3,000 per month for the first year. New trading participants will also be offered training programs on a free-of-charge basis, up to a certain amount.

As mentioned on the phone, we are in the process of establishing a new telecommunication hub (Access Point) in Dubai which will hopefully be operational sometime in spring this year.

I will be in Dubai during the first week of February (Feb 05-08) and it would be great if we could arrange a meeting to go over all details regarding a potential membership. I have a flexible schedule, just let me know what would be convenient for you.

Feel free to pass on this information and my contact details to anybody who might be interested as well."

  5. Just be careful. If you steal, they cut off your hand. If you lie, they cut out your tongue..........

I understand it's not the place to commit adultery.

Yes, but not recently, used to live in the Sultanate of Oman to the south in the early 90s which isn't as open minded as Dubai and absolutely loved it. Dubai was a sparse place in those days

when I was first there in 1991

and now, note the same buildings in the foreground

I know a few people who've been posted out there in the last couple of years and think it's a great place to live

  8. I lived and live in dubai for 27 years. It seems to me you are either Middle Eastern and someone who enjoys watching skyscrapers, going to malls...or haven't traveled elsewhere much

Even i had very good paying income, i decided not to waste my life in dubai anymore, because there are nearly hundreds better cities ....to live.

Well I'm sorry you're bitter that you feel you've wasted your life and I'm happy for you that you've finally moved. I've never settled in one country for more than six years my whole life, gotta keep movin. I'm planning to stay in Dubai maybe 2/3 years, then on to the next but for now the sun and tax breaks are very alluring and London winters verys offputting!

The great thing about this job is that you never need to settle. Singapore, Chicago, Montreal, Sydney, New York, Amsterdam and Gibraltar are all on my shortlist... decisions decisions. You gotta love the freedom of trading.

I'd be bored of anywhere after 27 years

  10. I recently moved from Chicago to Doha, Qatar and am currently daytrading US equities via home ADSL line. All systems work fine and market hours are currently 5:30PM to Midnight. I visit Dubai often and love it. Also travel throughout the Middle East and just like N. America... it has its pluses and minuses.

Now.. let's talk about trading from Middle Eastern capitals. I would be very interested in hearing from (or possibly meeting up with) individuals daytrading (equities, futures, currencies) from Dubai or Doha.

Most of the Middle East stock exchanges have been hit with big loses (>50%) the past 12 months. I would be interested in hearing from any with experience in "actively" trading the local exchanges as well.

    Best regards, Joe
