What about the golfers from the European tour? Are they screened in a similar manner?

What about "rule of law"? 4 years in jail because of a miniscule spec of substance on the bottom of your shoe? Could have picked that up walking through the terminal. No "innocent until proven guilty"?

Just don't even land in that airport at all. It looks like you could get screwed just having a short layover or transfer there.

Something is fishy about this story. If this was the case, no way Dubai would be what it is becoming right now.

  6. I have never understood the popularity of the idea of trading in Dubai that's why I added the link to the story from today's press.
But each to his own, I'm not trying to disuade anyone from going there just because it doesn't appeal to me.
You say it is sounds fishy RedDuke, but I can recollect simliar stories about harsh punishments meted out to westerners before, never mind the stories about how the local blue collar workers are treated. I'm not going to provide any more links. If you're interested then maybe google "human rights" and "Dubai".

I am not saying that it is false, but I am sceptical. Eveyone knows that middle east and human rights do not go hand in hand. One thing for sure, I have no interest going into that part of the world at all.

Well almost exactly 3 years after starting this thread I was out trading Eurex from Dubai testing the speed at the http://www.Dubaiptg.com prop house last week.

I must say I was impressed with the response times, really not that different from the London houses maybe 5-10ms slower via the leased line. They connect to the Dubai Eurex hub in the next week or so and that should be even faster. Anyway looks like I'll be making the move, if you're not taxed on your worldwide income, it seems daft not to. Bund open is 10/11am rather than 7am in London.

Dubai isn't perfect by any means but with the income boost and the weather over that of London i'm seeing more pros than cons. Rents are high now, (unlike when I began this thread) about $40k a year for a decent 2 bed apartment. A 4 bed villa would rent for $25k in 2004 and same ones go for $70k a year now. At least petrol is cheap.

    Thanks for all the responses.
