Thanks for all of the advice. I want to use displayport connections. I believe both the dell and viewsonic have this. I'll look at samsung and LG also.

  2. So let me get this straight. You have these huge 40 inch monitors throughout your house so you can monitor the markets. You use a computer designed for video editing or engineering to display your charts strung across 10+ monitors. I hate to break the news guys but I was displaying charts across monitors back in the 90s using retail computers I picked up from Best Buy over a dialup line. No idea what cpus they were, but they were anything but what you guys are running. Those guys on CNBC with all those monitors and big telephone exchange are doing slightly more than just daytrading AAPL and executing a few random options strategies.

As for monitors strung throughout the house...if you need multiple 40 inch monitors so you can monitor the market in real time I have some news for you. If thats what you need, then quit trading now. I can take one look at a chart on an iphone or not even an iphone...Ill grab a recent newspaper take one look and tell you which way its going. We are not on the Starship Enterprise where we need multiple monitors or a constant flow of information to determine which way things are going.

You guys are a bunch of clowns and can be outraded over an Iphone versus your Star Trek esque setups. Can I ask a question? Do you wear the Star Trek uniforms too?

Good for you dude. Care to post your returns from your stellar iPhone trading? Of course none of this is a necessity to trade, I just like using multiple monitors. I can spend my money however I see fit, however frivolous you think it is.

  6. His family is stupid wealthy. He shits doubloons. He doesn't care about the cost; so why not have the setup that makes him feel comfortable? Also, he trades some exotic vanilla stuff (dispersion) and is not a crackhead scalper in ES. Your argument is akin to a guy telling the Ferrari buyer that a Ford Fusion is a better commuter.

Put some cash on the table if you think you can out-trade him. Obviously it's not worth his time to do so. You really think trading from an iphone is best-practice? I guarantee that I can out-trade you from my work rig while you're trading from a smartphone.

And wtf are you taking this so personally? Is his hand in your pocket?

I think I have decided to go with six 24" IPS monitors at 1920x1200 (display port connections). I am leaning towards the Dell UltraSharp U2412m screens, however I would consider other brands. I would ideally like to mount all the screens on a single 3 over 3 desk stand, granted that it would be sufficiently stable. I have found a few stands that might work:

    http://www.ergotechgroup.com/products/heavy-duty-17-24-36/hex-3-over-3-lcd-desk-stand-63/

    http://www.aavara.com/en/products/product.php?id=72

    http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=soho&cs=ussoho1&sku=320-2676

I am aware that perhaps four 27" screens may be a more popular choice, especially due to the higher resolution. I personally would prefer to have more screens. And from an aesthetic standpoint I really like the look of six monitors.

I plan on ordering the equipment this week. Thanks for all of your help.
