+1 for ergotron stands. i've been using a triple stand for 6 years and the thing's a rock. if a nuclear bomb went off the stand would still be there.
I know ergotron makes a good product. But I don't think they make a 6 monitor stand (3 over 3). Unless you use three vertical dual monitor stands.
Good to know. I have a Planar triple monitor stand now that is rock solid and very adjustable. I just wish they made one for six monitors.
only way for stable 6 monitor setup is by having the ones that attache to the wall... not sure the name... I will go to the equities floor after market close and find out the manufacturer... you can see if those are sold online somehow... but it will not be cheap... I would hang 6 any other way...
here is a six monitor stand that clamps to the desk. i am not recommending this just found it doing a quick GOOG search. http://www.amazon.com/LCD-2000-Hex-monitor-stand-Adjustable/dp/B001HHSTBC here are the ergotron wall mounts from their website http://www.ergotron.com/Products/WallMounts/tabid/157/Default.aspx here is a freestanding mount for six monitors from tiger direct - don't drop this on your foot when you're moving! http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7378610&CatId=576
I respect all three individuals knowledge and advice. I have no desire to enter any debate. Personally of your two choices I prefer the 4x27" option over 6x24" for numerous reasons. [I absolutely love my 30" monitors, but that wasn't one of your choices.] First larger monitors with higher resolution can accommodate a lot of information on one screen, be it multiple charts, windows etc... Larger Screens are easier on the eyes, less squinting. At my age my eyesight isn't what it used to be and larger monitors was a great relief. Just something to consider. Regarding your monitor stand, you may also consider getting 2 or 3 dual monitor stands instead of one huge 6 monitor stand. If you every decide to reduce # monitors or split locations, i.e. 4 monitors primary trading area, 2 monitors in alternate location, you an easily move/split them. Not to mention the price of a 6-monitor stand is equivalent to a 27" monitor. Ergotron is an excellent mfg, can't go wrong with them no matter which route you take. http://www.ergotron.com/MultiMonitorMounts/tabid/159/language/en-US/Default.aspx The bottom line is you need to decide what works best for YOU, your intended use. If you are a one horse cowboy like the majority of ET, you don't really require 6 monitors, if you are trading multiple instruments, markets, scanning etc... Then multiple monitors makes sense. That should be your guide. I am a simple discretionary trader: EURUSD, CL, GC, ES are my primary instruments intraday and swing. I trade equities intraday during earnings and also swing some. Over the years, I have come to the conclusion less is more, you become efficient and focused. I found the sweet spot 3x30" for charting and a separate system with one monitor for order entry, hence my suggestion of the 4x27". Again, determine your intended use, go to the store, compare monitors and decide for yourself what fits your needs. attached is a SS of 3ea 2560x1600 desktop as an example how many charts you can display on 3 ea. monitors. [7680x1600] {requires no monitor stands}
How much info you choose to display and how large of charts is a personal choice. (And it's not necessarily "the more, the better"... you can get so much displayed that you lose track and miss things.) I find 5 x 24", 1920x1200, to be adequate and a pleasant size for large charts... set up without Egotron-type stand.. rather 2x, 72"x30" tables in an "L" pattern.
Look you are just trading stocks not launching a man to the moon. Why do you need to turn your bedroom into Nasa? Do you have those goofy headsets as well? I bet there are some here who can outrade you on an iphone versus your nasa control room.
Normally I do not respond to flames and negative comments, but I am at a loss to whom your comment is directed. Being one of the last to post and provided a reference SS of the charting potential I am assuming it was me. If it was directed at Scat, your negativity is also misdirected, it has been my experience he is extremely generous with helping others. Not to mention directly assisted you. I was merely commenting to the OP's request for suggestions and having the experience of using various configurations of 2,3,4,5,6 x 30" monitors I offered MY PERSONAL preference. I clearly stated the OP needs to determine what suits his needs. For some multiple monitors is a luxury, for others a necessity. As Atticus pointed out it is all relative to ones budget, requirements, and financial means. Regarding your bet that others could outrade me on an iPhone is totally irrelevant to me. I have no need to compare myself to others. I am long retired at an early age living a comfortable lifestyle without want. I reach or exceed my personal goals on a consistent basis. If others are able to reach their goals as well, that is absolutely wonderful, but it doesn't affect me one way or the other. I am not envious of others, it serves no purpose. But what I find so odd about your comment compelling me to respond wasn't the content as the source. Wasn't it you who wanted to Drive 8 [EIGHT] monitors? Albeit you didn't mention anything about headsets.... http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&postid=3751159#post3751159
