Agreed. Don't know what the OP paid for the setup from Falcon, but @ $900 with him shipping, I think it's a good buy.

  2. In response to Scataphagos and Leapup, I'll pay shipping and insurance. I obviously paid more for the system than $900 but that's irrelevant (sunk cost and all).

  3. We all know that older/used technology sells at significant discount to what we paid.. I remember my first hard drive... 40MB, with lots of bad sectors... $400. And I thought it was FAST.

I sold a 250G hard drive last week for $25. Might have been lucky to get that, as new 1T drives are going for $50-$60.

Scat and bolimomo would know what to price something at to move it, no question.

It's amazing. I'm almost finished ordering what I need to build my system at around $3100, and I'm sure it will be worth about $1200 or less in two years.:(

None the less, the OP looks to have a pretty good setup for less than a grand.

  5. Likely true, but if it meets your trading needs now, it will also in 2 years... no need to fret about what it's worth on the used market...

Suggest not skimping on mobo nor power supply... should be able to get 6-8 years or more out of good hardware... so long as software/drivers don't make it obsolete.

Don't want to mess up the OP's thread. Here's what I decided on. Tell me what you think scat:

    http://biz.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6077552&sku=I455-97000

    Six of these: http://biz.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5649523&sku=A466-2306

    Two of these: http://biz.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6373864&sku=A455-8402

Last, a 6 monitor Ergotron stand.

OR, ordering two more monitors, and going with two of these: http://www.ergotron.com/Products/tabid/65/PRDID/196/Default.aspx

    Hope I'm going in the right direction. I'm computer ILLITERATE! :D

  7. 1. Suggest checking out CyberpowerPC.com for the computer... They may offer more for the money.... X58 Configurator w/i7 950 CPU... skimp on the case if you want to save $50.

    2. 6-monitors = OK and OK price

    3. You mentioned only "2" dualhead video cards to run 6 monitors... that won't work.... and those cards have both VGA and DVI displays. I'd go with video cards with 2, DVI or 2, DP (Display Port). In many cases, VGA is noticeably inferior to DVI display...sometimes they are about the same, but not usually.

I like Nvidia Quadro NVS 295 video cards.

Can't comment on a monitor stand.. don't use 'em.

Thanks! Btw, will I need 2 of the Nvidia Quadro NVS 295 video cards?

AND, what monitors would you go with?

  9. Each NVS 295 runs 2 monitors. Just make sure you get a mobo with enough x16 slots to run the number of monitors you want.

I prefer and have spent more money on S-IPS monitors. A few years ago, I rejected the notion of TN panels. Since, however, they have become better. I especially like, and have one... an ASUS VW266h. 25.5", 1920x1200... for about $279. Gets excellent reviews from buyers. You might find that 4 of those will be adequate instead of 6x22" setup.

Ok, I'll order three of these: http://biz.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4610189&CatId=3599

Do me a favor and help me pick out eight 24" monitors. I'll owe you one! (I'm going to send back the six that I ordered. Goodness! I'm as bad as a woman shopping when it comes to this!) Just want to have a system that will last me 5-7 years with no real problems.

Btw, sorry OP for posting this in your thread. I guess it does keep the thread bumped up though.
