I doubt trading "breeds" assholes. These people were assholes long before they started trading. In my life I have encountered assholes in every profession at every level. Why should trading be any different? The great thing about being independent (not working for someone else) is you don't have to put up with them.
I started trading in the mid-90's, then a long hiatus, now in futures 14 years. While there might be some percentage of certain personality types who are strongly attracted to trading, and who are obsessed with money and competition in general, there are plenty of exceptions. IF you allow it to happen, the financial markets can actually be a powerful Evolutionary, Primal Force for Self Improvement and transcending one's present limits. An anvil upon which your character is further forged, character you can utilize in other realms of life, and ultimately carry on with you past this present life. Competing against your own present limits and weaknesses. Arrogance and ignoring those weaker aspects of your self ultimately will destroy your trading account! Most traders do not last long in this challenging realm. To me trading also means Freedom in many different ways. To succeed over the long term in trading, from my perspective it demands at times brutal self-honesty, self-examination, course corrections, enormous self-discipline. Ultimately, the markets can also teach just how little any of us Know about much of anything, and just how uncertain Life can be. Just when you think you have the markets figured out, they have a habit of kicking you in groin. Like finding the Truth about a wide variety of things, we are dealing with probabilities.
We don't live in 1950s/1960s society, respect honor prayer unit is a hard sell in 2020s regardless it is trading, driving your car or standing in line at grocery store. Overall 99% of people have moments of being an A-hole. Some are more proficient than others. I went into trading for the challenge, now 46 years later, I don't find it a challenge much any more, yes I have losses, but they are expected. You have to work hard to find your niche, after awhile you reduce systems to trade, reduce daily goal to net 2.00 points on ES. Always keep stats.
