You definitely have a point about flourescents. Though it is best to eliminate them entirely... I wound up using 60W halogen tracklighting DAYLIGHT bulbs aimed throughout to help. Thus I ended up with focused lighting and no eye strain. Ever wonder why with natural light or zero light you don't have the same issues??? LOL. If you use CFL's it is all revealed.
I found turning the brightness down helped a lot. My eyes were bugging out on me... seeing spots and all... try trading candles with spots - can drive you nuts.
