thats great hype, lets just hope that release 2.5 does some great things compared to 2.0 because as a paying customer of 2.0 its not worth it. so far im VERY disassatisfied and if 2.5 doesn't do the trick, im going to warn all new ET readers to ver very careful of your product. very disattisfied. pat
im comparing 2.0 to ts8.1. I have a good system that works in the future written for TS8.1. For the life of me I can't get the same thing done in 2.0. This product is sold as a product that can easily migrate from TS8. That is absolutely false. for one thing they don't have the "open of tomorrow" functions which is good for testing and buying on the open of a bar if it contains a certain condition from the close of the previous bar. for exacmple in 2.0, i cant use a 5 minute bar and say if open of tomorrow is 5 points larger than close then buy open of tomorrow at market. to get it to work in 2.0, i would have to have a tick chart and buy on the second tick of that time frame. and i usually test back 3 years and test 3 years of tick data is very hard and cumbursome. lots of others. but I want to be fair and wait for the majority of my opinion for when 2.5 comes out. but if they are not going to solve the open of tomorrow situation then they are dead in the water as far as my systems go. pat
yes, you'll have to see what's in 2.5. That said, is it possible to export the TS function you're referring to and ask the Tradersstudio people to translate it into their language? I know they do that kind of thing for people. I reckon they'd do it for free if they think it's functionality that should be in the product. But you'll have to ask them, 'cos I don't work there.
I have BEEN challenged on whether i own traderstio 2.0 and legal action will be taken against me if i don't. the product was sold to me "John Patrick Rogers" from eagan Mn in July or August. I just dont like the product and ill know more when 2.5 comes out. pat rogers
The command is NextOpen(DataSeries) If you pass a zero it will give you the open of the next bar for the series you are trading. It in the on line help.
We have help many customers translate their code or at least a sample system they are having problems with. We have had some issues with translating version 8.2 code. We are about 95%to 98% on version 2000i. Tradestation has changed some of the syntax. In working with customers we discovered we needed two different version of the translator, one for version 4.0 and 2000i. The other for the current on line version. This is because TradeStation is just making too many little changes , which make using one translator impossible. The only change to the end user is clicking on a radial button to select which one. Our support is very helpful when customers ask. We can't translate every system people have ,because some people have many but we will help them get started and give the an outline of how to handle the minor issues they are having based on their coding style or working around issues TradeStation has created since the last release. This is why the translator has to be a work in progress. We need to keep up with the changes TradeStation makes and adapt to different coding styles as customers ask for help with issues. Our goal is to make this product the best possible.
First , I have been attacked on this site several times and when we investigated we found that is was the competitors of TradersStudio who were involved so I needed to confirm you were a owner and the challenge was only one if you did not own the product and saying bad things, because for example you work for another backtesting platform. I remember you now, you could have PM me if you where unhappy and I would have done whatever I needed to to make you happy. I remember we sold you the product with a 30 day return. You registered it ,so how was I to know you where unhappy. I know many people who have done intra-day analysis using TradersStudio and have translated their systems. I will admit that the some time based expression for intra-day trading don't translate as well I would want in 2.0, because intra-day was put in as a added value to customers, we used 1000's of examples of end of day system to create our translator. I have just not been able to find that much intra-day code. Intra-day analysis works in 2.0, but we have limitations like we support a limited number of timeframes from 1 min to 60 min bars. We will not have these restriction in real time. We just wanted to give our customers more value so we enabled support we had in the product because we are working on real time.
This is quite a revealing statement, and one you're entitled to. However, you seem to be damning 2.0 when the features you're more likely after will become available in the "realtime" version (whenever that is - not sure). I'd undeerstand your angst if you were using RT and not getting any value from it. Tradersstudio/Murray openly admit to features that are lacking and provide an implicit roadmap showing when those features will become available. They're equally bullish, and justifiably so, about the products strengths. IMO, it's irrational to trash this product so vehemently against that backdrop. I own Tradersstudio and have been generally impressed, though it does have some limitations too. However, I have been equally impressed by the rationale of the development path taken up to now and quality of step-change improvements made. They have a track record, so far, for delivering on what they say. I'd suggest the stakes are incrementally higher for release 2.5 and 3.0 (realtime) - they will incorporate features that are very important and could make TS a major standout product. Hopefully, neither commercial or ET pressure will lead to them dropping the ball... Thx D
you guys are probably right. I do owe murry an apology. he did ask me to pm me. Ive been using Tradestation for over 10 years so I don't have to ask for much help when i need to get something done. that is what is fustrating me now. I can't get it done on my own and im afraid to ask for help. and during the day, im to busy trading that i just dont mess with it. I think that answer to request someone from trader studio to re write 3 or 4 of my programs so I can learn from that. I know that there are some great concept here. the idea of putting 10 trading stratigies into a trading plan and get one portfolio report. that would be invaluable to me. murry, would you consider helping me re write three of my programs to work exactly as they work in TS8, then i could learn from there.
