2 or 3 exotic trips a year is a vacation, one year abroad is a life experience....

So I'm going to europe for the first time in July/August 2011 - would love to meet any traders there.

I'm not looking to crash on anyone's couch I'll be arranging my own hotels, but would love to just meet up, have some dinner and drinks

I think it'll be great to talk about trading with people from different parts of the world

About me - Im 36, been a broker/trader for about 10 years. I mainly trade ASX options and FX now but have traded pretty much everything that has vol. Im based in Sydney Australia

Let me know if anyone here on ET is keen

Europe is kind of well, big. This request reminds me of the "I need a trading computer/car" question...

Or are you willing to meet me in Albania???

Pekelo - Are you really in Albania?!

The main problem with the concept of a "Trader's World Tour" is that there needs to be some kind of "screening" involved. Some of the apparently normal ET posters might turn out to be the "crazies", and the "ET crazies" might turn out to be the good guys/gals in real life.. :D

So before such an idea goes any further you need to establish the rules for creating some kind of "inner circle" of safe, trusted traders to meet, without having to worry about some stranger molesting your kids when they come to visit!

I think if two guys/gals from different countries/continents already know each other as good friend, they could perhaps vouch for the other one and then establish the initial "inner circle founding membership".

The founding members would subsequently be able to invite anyone to join the "inner circle", whereas other new members would require the support of three others, ideally one of them having met the new member IN PERSON.

There would be no other way to be admitted into the inner circle aside from support of the founding members, or three other members. You couldn't simply sign up for ET membership and gain admittance. Perhaps in time the circle would grew through PM, in the shadows, "invitation only"..

    Something like that..! :D

So the question is, which two ET members, known to each other, and located in different countries/continents are willing to become the founding members and establish the trading "inner circle"?!

Perhaps there could be a maximum of one founding member from every country/continent??
You could be kicked out if three existing members voted so, or two founding members...?
    What other rules in place?

Of course not, I was making a point. The whole idea of this thread is although might be fun at first sight, at second thought it is a logistic nightmare, thus never gonna happen.
It is a much better idea to trade wherever you are and take vacations together, no trading involved...

  7. I am living this for the past 2 years.

6 months out of the year i travel. Right now, i am trading from an internet cafe in the middle of fucking nowhere- central north Thailand. Frankly, the first time i have had connectivity issues that caused a problem. i anticipated this though- i am rarely this far off the beaten path.

This year i've traded from several parts of Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, HK and even Cambodia.

What i've learned is that i can make due with far less than imagined. first i thought i needed a minimum of 3 x 24" monitors. last year i got by with a 15" lappy + 1 24" monitor. this year- laptop only. frankly, laptop only is not enough- but it's workable.

hotel to hotel to hotel really wears you down. at this point, the better approach for me is a base of operation that is a good airline hub, where you rent a place for the duration. take the 2 or 3 week trips from there, round trip it back, rinse, repeat. it gives you a home away from home. it allows you to bring a smaller suitcase for the 2-3 week stints- saving money on baggage, time and the overall pain of dragging everything around to every location.

the toughest thing is relationships. you meet a girl you really like, and you're leaving soon after you meet. for me, this isn't a casual sex tour- i prefer relationships vs encounters- so girls have altered my plans. a girl is why i am in the middle of nowhere- i caved and decided to go ahead and meet the family.

even after 5 or 6 months, even though i miss my friends and family back home.... i never want to leave. i head home in 4 weeks and it will be kicking and screaming. granted, once i am home, i settle back in quickly. still, i look forward to the next trip abroad much more than the next trip back home.

so, yes.... there is someone actually doing this.

Sure, but you are doing it ALONE. The thread's idea was to find traders who wanted to travel AND trade TOGETHER.

true. but as i recall (haven't read the thread in a while- just noticed it at the top of list), it kinda drifted into the traveling and trading area- alone or otherwise.

i think trading is a pretty solitary endeavor for most. if you're independent enough to give this a go as a profession, i doubt ur the type to want to follow the travel whims of others for months on end.

i think a better idea is to have a where's waldo kinda thing where, when we are so inclined, we'll post our current city so we can connect with other like minded (in theory) people as a break from the locals. i would imagine this would naturally create some hubs- major cities where expenses are not egregious- such as Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Barcelona, etc
