Heck no. Many of the latter model fighters have weight/thrust in the neighborhood of 1:1, AT fairly low weights. But that's way beyond my means, not that it wouldn't be nice. Using EAA spreadsheets my estimated takeoff run is 1,037 feet and 1,362 feet to clear a 50' obstacle. Landing distance should be about 1,049 feet or 1,957' if having to clear an obstacle near the end of the runway. Using the same spreadsheet maximum rate of climb is estimated at around 2,600 FPM. Which is not bad, but using another slightly different method I've come up with estimates in excess of 4,000 FPM at lower weights (less fuel). Reality will probably be in between. The airframe is stressed (assuming I haven't fucked it up) at + 9 and - 3 G's at 1850 LBS. I have spreadsheets for the wing and tail surfaces so I feel good about those numbers . I'm having to rely on self taught ability for the fuselage. Fortunately fuselage forces tend to be relatively light in comparison to the wings and tail.
Here's a view of the current intended wing plan form. Obviously the center section will be taken up by the fuselage.
Hopefully when the time comes I won't end up in a smoking crater of my own making. Here a view of the horizontal stab, which is technically an all flying taileron.
My oil pan is leaking and worse I have a coolant leak. I'm tearing the engine down again. What a pain in the ass. I also just received virtually all the materials to construct the vertical and horizontal stabilizers. I'm going to go ahead and begin those while rebuilding the engine.
"Any coward can sit in his home and criticize a pilot for flying into a mountain in a fog. But I would rather, by far, die on a mountainside than in bed. What kind of man would live where there is no daring? And is life so dear that we should blame men for dying in adventure? Is there a better way to die?" - Charles Lindbergh
I really enjoy PC gaming. It seems that trading and gaming go hand-in-hand. Check out the game RIFT or EVE. Great games. I also enjoy reading fantasy novels and trading books of course. It's important to have hobbies. I remember trading virtually around the clock--didn't pay off. Take a break and enjoy having a hobby- it's never too late to start! P.S Comic book collecting is fun too! (you can buy low and sell high too!) =) ~Thomas
