Traders - Warning !

Discussion in 'Retail Brokers' started by gg53, Dec 26, 2014.

  1. Most probably he used FF to attack another forum. We can see the repeating behaviour here. We have only his words that he wasn't given a reason. Maybe he was given the reason and he just doesn't want to say what it is.

He barely got started here and already he said he has a site for people to join. That's just commercial activity by stealth, which the terms of use in most forums would disallow.

what make you think you deserve an explanation to your banning ?

your contribution is the content property of the forum owner, and they can dispose of it at their discretion.

Your are technically an object in the forum software, not a member, therefore terminating you in the virtual world has no real legal and physical consequences.

This particular issue alone is why I highly recommend to folks that if they are posting useful content at forums...they should have their own independent location (e.g. blog) and first post their content at their own online location that they control and then link to it whenever they repost the content at a trader forum. Thus, first post the content at the blog and then link to it at trader forum or just copy/paste the info at the forum if linking isn't allowed.

Don't do such if the blog or site contains commercial content or trader advertisements that compensates the blogger

Very useful considering forum owners / administrators / moderators can intentional or accidentally delete your messages, files or whatever you post at their forums. I've seen a lot of traders post useful content at forums...spending lots of time and energy posting the information to only see it disappear due to a ban, forum hack attack or forum does some update and accidentally loses some content during the update process.

By the way, Elitetrader.com does allow such...linking to a blog but the blog must not contain commercial content nor trader advertisements that compensates the blogger.

    wrbtrader,

Good advice, but this is "Catch 22" with FF.
If you got a website or a blog that you link to it -> Boom -> Banned -> Revoked == Scammer.

    I've seen others do it.

My guess is that they must have asked for permission prior to doing such and that their "blog" didn't have any commercial content and wasn't linked to any kind'uv trader advertisements (e.g. Amazon trader books, forex broker) that compensates the blogger.

Always ask first...rule of thumb for most trader forums. If not sure, just do a copy/paste instead of linking.

  8. Seems like good business?
Websites want: traffic/clicks. Why send users away.
If content is King why send them away to great content elsewhere.

Links or no links...that's not the issue nor was I trying to explain what happen to you in particular.

The issue is do you value your content ? If you do, it needs to be backup (saved elsewhere off site instead of using a forum for storage) just in case there's a problem with the forum you've been posting your content at.

Heck, you can even download all conversations from any forum threads you've participated in if you know how to do it just in case the thread gets deleted...very useful if you want to re-post all of it at a later date somewhere else.

I think too many traders forget that trader forums is just like anything else online...save your work if its of any value so that it becomes very easy to re-post the content elsewhere whenever you choose to do so. Blogs are free although not an adequate source for file storage. Best to get something outside of your blog and then link to it to your blog to go along with the storage on your computer. Crap happens, tomorrow your computer can crash and I'm sure as a trader you must have a backup of your computer...right ? That's my point.

On a side note from the above topic...you mentioned your thread or posts were moved to "recycle bin" (trashed) when you were banned. If you have other posts not trashed...that in itself would imply the trashing of your content was very specific to the content that was trashed considering your other content was left untouched...something for you to think about considering you've stated you don't understand why you were banned.

I've seen the above happen a lot at forums but its hard for anyone on the outside to review considering the content and the message posts involved with the content that was deleted is no longer accessible in comparison to the content that was untouched and still viewable by the public.

Hopefully, you can see this as an opportunity to learn something about forums. Protect your own content including conversation history (replies, files by other members) just in case something goes wrong at the forum.
