Nite, You need to rebuild. Sure you can get the older java working with the stable TWS build. (Uninstall TWS-JTS, delete all, maybe delete the keys in the Reg-edit, reboot and reinstall). But you should move to Win 10 and install the stable TWS and Java will come complete with it (and compatible with TWS). Also the security is better for a machine you do $$$ transactions upon. Also note reformatting the C:\Windows with Win 8, you will want the Win 8 media on a CD or USB, AND the license keys. Most of the machines after Win8, will do a Windows 10 reinstall, with license keys stored in a "hidden" partition on the main drive. Much smother to rebuild Win 10. Point is, TWS and Java should be a very easy install. If it is not, your Windows machine should probably be clean re-installed. Hope this helps.
thank you for your reply--my problem is that TWS- JTS will NOT uninstall- ( nor load ) I went to the control panel and tried there, and I get a pop up that my computer does not have java 8 or JTS--and it does... I went to the TWS in programs / start menu and hit the uninstall button and the same pop up appears and it will not uninstall.. I also went to the install EXE and clicked on that -- and it said that is was installing. etc and I got the same pop up. I did that several times and still got the same response ... frustrating..
Jeez dude, I didn't think you were seriously at that point. No, you do not want to C:/format C: Bad juju. Check to see if your machine has a recovery BIOS, with a clean Win install on it. I cannot recall when that started coming around, but it is neat...It's a clean re-install from a BIOS-initiated hidden partition on yer hard drive. Check with your local hardware guru or motherboard manual.
Hello! well just a note and thanks for the different ideas to get the TWS working again.. I did a recovery on my computer back to my Pre-crash/ recovery date. and it got rid of the un-working TWS and re-installed what appears to be the first working TWS.... VERY strange, as the first recovery deleted the first install of TWS, yet when I did the second recovery the TWS came out of "who knows where". Now I have to find the time to check it over thoroughly and make sure it is working ( hopefully) properly..
Well you would not believe the final result of this mess!! I did a recovery and got rid of the broken TWS program. However my computer was running awful.. I went through and clean as much as I could and it still would not work properly.. I was looking around and in the AVG anti virus I found a JTS file in quarantine as a virus! I deleted the JTS "virus" ( according to AVG..) The computer was still running terrible, so a did another "recovery".. after recovery- My AVG would not load afterwards, and an online search said that there possibly was a virus-- AND the broken TWS was back... So I did a "un- recovery" This time when it was finished- my AVG was back- the broken TWS was gone, and no JTS file in the AVG.. and my computer is running properly again... I would like to possibly trade with IB- but I sure don't need the problems with the TWS program that I experienced... any thoughts??
