    you may be surprised, i have seen PTJ autographs on ebay sell for quite a bit in the past.

  6. Actually like so many thinks that Surf says, only a portion of it is true.

    If the holder of the copyright is deceased, his or her heirs may have obtained the rights by inheiritance. If they become aware of the sale, or have some interest in pursuing it, they may at their discretion decide to "defend" and pursue a person trying to sell the object. If that person is found guilty, their are federal statutes that apply depending on the scale of the offense.

    This is written out in Title 17 of the United States Code

    "The author of a work is the initial owner of the copyright in it, and may exploit the right, or transfer all or some of the rights conferred by the copyright to others"

    This was probably covered the year you dropped out of law school so its understandable you didn't know about it.
