Wow, 2-3 week time frames? This isnt 1980, lol don't know anyone doing risk arb with that kind of risk appetite. How long have you been doing this? I'm very surprised you haven't been blown out by a GE/HON or something like JNJ/GDT even. These are my stats for the past 2 weeks Average hold time: 15:00:01 Total positions held: 8 Total symbols traded: 16 Winning trade %: 85.16% Losing trade %: 1.65% Winning trade Avg: $0.04 Losing trade Avg: $-0.22 Avg net revenue per 1000: $8.13
logged in at 10:15, so i lost about $200 worth of profitable trades from that opening Q pop. also lost some to that lid the .80 MSFT loss put on the dow and naz. still made back all of yesterday's loss, tho.
To reveal a bit more....it's baskets of pairs-fraction of the risk as straight pairs....no worries I'm spread out very nicely . Been trading' for about 8years or so. Ultimate risk management is most important, above all.
Lookin' good! It looks similar to the stats of how i used to trade....before that system died--but I sure do miss it!
How about a look at my non controversial blotter! I posted monday and tuesday i believe, but just to recap, my days were 69 98 105 111 130 ENded up being 515 for the week. My goal is $2000 for the month so i need to make about 112ish each day next week. I still havent had a down day this month, and i think im getting to the point where the trades i take are of such little risk there is no way i could actually have a down day all day(touch wood?). The only problem is the upside just isnt there. Im working on some new things though so hopefully i will post some bigger numbers soon. As you all probably know i trade EMC all day everyday, and it was the most crazy i have ever seen thurs/fri with the earnings coming out thursday. Was pretty exciting, and i was happy i just waited my turn and took low risk profits of $240 over the 2 big volume days.
szeven, I'm exactly in your situation.....my targets are also exactly the same... only one problem... with me I give up what I earned on few days thats the only problem Satish.
I have been trying to do the same for the past 2 weeks , scalping nasdaq stocks I say scalping but I try to ride moves of a point or more sometimes on part of the position. Usually I give it all back though on that remaining position. I haven' traded more than 300 shares at a clip, just experimenting . I prefer EOD trading but I want to trade more to make more money. I also make some intraday trades in ETF's and commish are killing me there, sometimes futures aswell. Today I feel like I am spinning my wheels I would have been positive if not for commish ($0.01/share) - I got "killed" on 50 GOOG I bought without stop when the rally started, such bad luck my ETF's took off GOOG dropped a point just after I got in. If I could make $100 a day with a dozen intraday trades in addition to other strategies I would be happy but even that seems tough in the great market we are having. I don't see how these guys are pulling these kind of numbers day in day out even accounting for the much bigger size. Even on 300 shares one small mistake can set you back $100 at the start of the day ( tough to watch 3 scalping positions plus the indices at the open) and I miss tons of opportunities .
As an FYI, i pay about $1.20 to $2 to flat 1k shares, so thats .0012 to .002 per share commision. If i paid .01 i would get absolutly hammered everyday. I would suggest if you are a consistent scalper to look for a better commision deal. If not, well, im no help cause i cant do anything but scalp NYSE!
kicking, try not trading in the AM at all... I fact... try trading in the PM, say in the last 1.5 hours of trading. If you trade some big names than that is when 'smart' money starts buying or selling. In the AM you are in the loop with 'dumb' money which is very volitile due to reactions of whatever may be going on. If you just need to make a few hundred bucks than this is what you should try. Lastly, and most importantly... consider not trading at all on certain days if the setups are not there with your 3 or 5 stocks. The money will come... just don't focus on that. Focus on the entry, a good entry will reduce the need for a big stop. Focus on the time of day and that should get you rolling...
