I didnt get a chance to trade yesterday at all. Figures on the day it moved heavy I missed it due to circumstances beyond my control. first thing in the morning my wife tells me that I have to go with her to a doctors appointment for the first check up on our new unborn baby. that took forever!!!! so as im looking at my watch im thinking "cool, I got plenty of time to trade for the rest of the day," No that was not in the cards. 2 hours at the mall, a lunch break later, a visit to my real estate agent, a walk through of a property that I am closing on in 1 hour and bamm my day was toast. today will be a busy day as well but I should be home a little after 12 noon to trade some. For now I have to go close on a piece of property that I bought a few weeks ago. happy trading to all. my brother said is was a ripping day on LU moving all over the place, and by the chart yesterday it was ripe for the picking.
Goldman just downgraded LU, and says there's no upside, and about 20% downside. i guess they front-ran their own downgrade by dumping yesterday's open. glad to hear you didn't get caught up in that 6+ million share collapse at yesterday's open, MK.
How did you make 50 cents in the Q's? it had a range of about 30 cents and pretty much one way I see you always have an open P&L do you ride these positions until the close or overnight?
here's the whole printscreen. http://www.freewebs.com/mytradingjournal/7-19close.PNG i took it at 4:08:14. at that time, my 500 share open, overnight QQQQ position was trading at $39.25, 51.7 cents higher than the previous day's $38.73 close. e*trade calculates first in, first out. if i had a 1,000 share overnight swing position that closed monday at $39, scalped Q's all day, never going under my initial 1,000 share holding, and closed out tuesday with 1,000 shares at $39.20, my open end of day position would be up 20 cents, regardless of what i scalped all day. if i had 1,500 shares at the end of the day, those extra 500 shares would be averaged in with the 1,000 share position, skewing the up .20. if i had 500 shares at eod, it would be considered up .20, unless i bought & sold under my 1,000 overnight holding. forgot to add.. yes, i always hold positions overnight. if it gaps down, i'm usually able to scalp back the loss. if i gaps up, i'll let it run and occasionally pyramid up. i also have 39 strike puts on around half of my position just in case.
im glad to see all the downgrades on LU it makes it cheaper and thus people will trade it more. I know its a bad reasoning but it happens none the less. im looking forward to trading the rest of the day.
yes I was just looking at LU daily chart when i sat down. its done nothing today, Ill be hard pressed to make anything today on LU but I am trading some others right now as we speak.
sammy OK I see, the day before was a good day to stay long overnight , are you saying you have an overnight position every night? what is your average trade size in Q's and how much commish do you pay for those trades, trading is Q's very commision intensive
yea, it is. but i figure, as long as they're easy to read, and responsible for half of my monthly proofits, i pretty much just hafta suck up the comms. i also use smart market order buys and sells to sweep all the little hidden orders inbetween the penny bid/offer spread that i can't see.. thereby taking liquidity on every trade. here's my past 3 weeks (not including another $88 today.. INTC and YHOO did me in).. http://www.freewebs.com/mytradingjournal/qqqqs.html with 93,800 shares, taking liq on both sides, my commish plus ecn fees are about $750, give or take a few bucks.
