  2. After all the "whore" talk, I couldn't agree more. I had to laugh out loud at the Novice Trader's comment.

Anyway, glad we got back on track.

I've heard that Gainesville, Florida, is terrific. It is far enough inland that it is not susceptible to flooding by hurricanes and so on. It is not crowded (like San Francisco, where I live). It is 1 hour from beaches where you can Kayak to islands, plus there are beautiful lakes and rivers where you can hike and canoe among the wildlife and exotic birds. Friendly people...low cost of living...$100,000 for 3 bdrm, 2 bath, 2-car garage.

Two drawbacks: Florida is the flattest state in the country (highest elevation is 300 ft above sea level). And very religious & conservative (well, that's a drawback for me, since I'm used to the relative open-mindedness of the Bay Area).

Yes they are. You've got to be VERY committed and motivated to wake up every morning and get to bed at a decent hour at night. I've been doing it for a while now and still haven't got used to it. Screw up by waking up late a day or two, and there goes your rhythm. Takes another few days to get it back; so in essence, there goes a week of distortion.

But the payoff is mighty fine. You must understand, when women come here on a "girls holiday", all they are looking for is fun and a hot stud with a tan and white teeth. Points if you surf. More points if you can teach them how to surf. Triple extra bonus points if you know a spot on the other side of the island where it's just you, them, and surf and sand and thongs all over the place (however, bring a buddy with you, they get a wee bit looser with another male around). And you may has well go straight to the bedroom if you've got all the above going on AND can speak pidgen on command. Da reel kine. Nehmine da haole dat stay tinking he gettum. Because, he doesn't and everyone else knows it.

Now for those sticky situations where things aren't going quite as planned. Take her just past Makaha on the west side to Yokes (Yokohama) at sunset with a blanket and a big-fatty (Hilo sized) and spark it up. Can't miss my braddah. But make sure you leave before dark.

New Hampshire has no income and no sales tax. What a deal!

Besides, it's definitely not flat. Lots of mountains and lakes.

  6. I've kind of dreamt up this glass pyramid i'd like to build in the mountains somewhere (or undersea) with a great office up in the apex..
    totally serious.

Any would-be conceptual architects around? (slam it if you want, everybody's entitled to a dream)

  7. can i just add.. i searched 14,000 miles of the usa last summer looking for place to start and learn trading (yeh, i'm fresh) after leaving a wall st career in IT, and I landed in pennsylvania. yes, pennsylvania. I've been all over. lived in asia, been to hawaii, all over europe, etc. personally, I can't stand the commercial sprawl that permeates america. dammit, give me a vista without a f#%&ing billboard trying to sell me some crap toyota, or mcdonalds. if you can afford your own ranch on its own mountain, then go to town. otherwise, the traditional north-east small town is the only vestige of authentic american life i've ever related to (besides manhattan). this place is a time-warp true to my heart. unless unbridaled consumerist detritus is all the americana we have left... (sports bars, billboards, malls, "house" music, neuvo-riche housing tracts, etc).. am i intoxicated by some noman rockwell/edward hopper fantasy, or does anyone else see this virus eating up the landscape?

ps - NM and the remotest areas of the southwest are undisturbed too from what i've seen. and monatana. and south dakota when you get away from the cities. that way the clouds make dense shadows that roll across the hills...

america rules, but wtf? We meant to check out Homer, AK, but it was a little far.. maybe it's better there?

Lots of great places to live if you are a professional trader. But don't overlook one thing: Good high speed broadband. Have several friends who live in neat places, but they are remote and the best they can get are slow phone lines or iffy satellite connections. Not so hot for trading. Having said that, Costa Rica has great weather, low taxes, good values, cute girls and plenty of high speed connections options.

serious? cause i'm not just looking for any beautiful dusty ghost town, a granule of soul is necessary too.. i'll check it out on my way to portland this summer if you mean it. we loved sawtooth valley. man what an amazing scene. the old part of arco idaho was a dream... like out of a david lynch movie. maybe a little too sparse though.
