I've heard it is only Parisians that hate Americans, that the people in the south of France don't have that problem.

My parameters for somewhere to live are good clime, good air, drinkable water, congenial people with access to good education, not necessarily in that order. I relate to Protestants a lot better than Catholics, that probably would be a parameter. My neighbors skin color means little to me, I want to travel everywhere and find a few spots that meet my criteria (plus throw in Amsterdam for the dope and general liberality). If I am making a lot of money then the taxation will be a big factor as well.

I second that Hawaii is the best place to live in the world if you are a successful trader. I say successful because the costs here are high.

Heres why I think Hawaii is the best place in the world to live.

there are many climates here depending on where u go.
you have desert, snow, rain, humidity, no humidity, tropical, subtropical, forests.

Despite *some* locals being a$$h0les to haouli's, Hawaii is a very multicultural place. Most locals are friendly people.

We have the cleanest air in the world here. Nice temperatures all year round.

There are no snakes or other menacing creatures in hawaii, except maybe eels and an occasional shark in the ocean, but if yer afraid of that, don't go in.

The surf is the best in the world. Despite it's popularity and crowds, I surf often and catch alot of waves.

Hawaii is truly paradise on earth. It is left over from a previous age or something.

I don't know anything about the nightlife because I don't go out.

For people who like simple living, yet with all the perks of technology, and the protection of the US, this place can't be beat.

    Places I've lived:

Canada, Washington, California, Texas, Colorado, Phillipines, and Hawaii.

In Hawaii, i've lived on Maui, Oahu, and the Big Island (Hawaii)

I also know quite a bit about Australia as i have lots of friends there, and I married one.

Australia has alot of similarities to Hawaii that would make it nice, like surf, climate, democratic country, peaceful country and more.

also your trading profits would go alot further over there as their currency is way under the dollar, and cost of living is very cheap.

yet it has lots more shark attacks, lots of snakes, gators, crocs, and more. Overall it's less of a paradise.

I also think the US is the best place to live because of the US laws. I love the Constitution, the tax laws, and everything else about the government.

    :p

  5. Cable; but not like US; all fiber backbone.

    $50 install for residential.

    $100 per month residential.

Commercial is more; some network, switch instead of modem.

I have also thought about Hawaii, but once had a freind who moved there from here, and said he got Island phobia. He commented that living on an Island is much difference than visting for a few weeks.

All depends on your frame of mind and what you are into. If you're a windsurfer, then Maui is absolute heaven. I have thought about Hawaii myself. Easy to get broadband, but the hours would be brutal.

I spent several years in Park City. That was lots of fun. Can ski or mtn bike every day after work.

  8. Lundy,

There are no gators in Australia. Only crocs.

And unless you live the outback, there are very few snakes, spiders, crocs and sharks. North America gets more shark attacks per year than Australia.

I think someones been watching a little too much crocodile Dundee.

95% of Australians live in developed Cities that look like any other modern city. Except for the incredible beaches that surround them.
    :) :)

  9. If anyone is wondering.

You can get a 2.9 meg per second cable connection in Australia. Starting at US $25 a month.

A back up ADSL connection starting at US $10 a month.

And a beach front property in Queensland for about $300k US

And if that sounds appealing, try getting residency.

Unless you have a least US 250K in assets and a University degree you won't even be considered.

Do you mean island fever? Very true, which is why I make at least 2 trips to the mainland each year for my "reality check".:p Living in a resort is not for everyone and definitely not the same as visiting one on vacation.
