Trader commits suicide

  1. uh, not that brave. Getting through high school, that was brave.

But this should have nothing to do with me. I simply meant to put things in persective; some things in life are truly immutable...a trading loss is not one of them.

  2. My last threadjack.

On the issue of money, the law of diminishing returns is applicable.

Once you have what you need; food, housing, health insurance, transportation, some entertainment, and a few passions, anything else brings increasingly marginal returns.

The people I know who literally kill themselves so that they can afford to acquire more and more expensive things seemingly do it, exclusively, to build their esteem among their peers.

For whatever reason, they believe that a Mercedes S550 will bring them more respect from others than an Acura TL. They need a American Express Black Card. They have to have a 7,500 square foot house, totally decked out, even though they don't have children, or their children are away at college. $7,500 suits, 100k Golf Club memberships, and on and on.

It's ironic that they're killing themselves to try and impress people, most of whom wouldn't miss them if they died tomorrow.

There is a point, assuming that one is confident in who they are, and not obsessed with what others think of them, where the rational person lets go of all the nonsense, focuses on quality versus quantity, passion versus excess, and throws any notions of those who judge them based on what they own or lease right out the window, and by doing so, they liberate themselves from a massive burden that will only get in the way of their self-realization.

You need money to be happy. Just make sure its a tool and not a master. And try to spread whatever is excess around to those who are truly in need of the basics, whatever that cause may be.

  3. frankly, i am tired of these types of holier than thou posts on these types of threads. its ALL relative-- S550's and 100k club memberships are TRINKETS for many people--if they want to buy nice things, big deal--there is NO spiritual significance. there is nothing wrong with apprieciating the finer things in life and aspiring for them. succesful traders are among the highest paid people on earth, it has nothing to do with self esteem, thats earned by success. It's not the losers who buy from the advertisers in trader's monthly.....

  4. asap

    asap

    wow.

i couldnt agree more with this.

i would also add that most often those traders that share this view on life and money tend to be more successful professionals than hose that have exactly the opposite view.

  5. Disagree.

The ONLY loss that is real and unrecoverable is the permanent loss of your health.

As long as you have your health, you live to fight another day.

  6. I think it is beautiful when you have nothing to lose. You are shit, you will never be anything to anyone. I have been there. I thought about suicide, but then I realized, if I win, then I win it ALL.

If I lose, then I lost, so what, I was never meant to win. The underdog is a SWEET place to be.

  7. Agree. The most important thing is your health.

You can get over big losses, at the time it happens your brain gets flooded with negative chemicals and you can remain in that state for a few days depending on how immune/emotional you are.

Been there done that, got the t-shirt several times. Trading is just trading, just a means to make money.

The problems start occuring if your entire existence/self worth is based on trading. If your trading goes to shit, make sure you have something to fall back on, or that you have a "stable/logical" mind, which will help you recover.

So to the new guys looking to make millions, yes this job can cost you your life. So be carefull and realize what your getting into.

  8. The thing is, you are dead.

The day you took your first breath. DEAD. Now, since you are going to DIE, and there is NOTHING you can do about it, why speed the process?

I do not suffer from depression. I will not be pretentious and say I know how the depressed feel, I do not.

I just have trouble with why it is not seen that if you wake up tommorrow, the chance exists, no matter how slim, that you can win.

  9. It is all relative, but what sense does it make to attach your LIFE, something that has EXTREME value, to a fiat currency, that has NO value?

    What is that all about?
