What's the difference between an "IB simulated" order and a synthetic order??

Seems "dubious technology" as you call it, is de facto for electronic futures. But why??

  2. one benefit of attending shows like the NYC traders expo is not really to learn new trading but to witness in person how many "new " and "improved" trading businesses are absolute laughable JOKE operations......as john stossel of ABC news says...........GIMME A BREAK!!!!!!!11

  3. I don't get your point. If specific order types are natively supported by an exchange then IB uses the native orders. If they are not then IB simulates them on their own servers. What else are they supposed to do ?

  5. Since both GLOBEX (CME) and eCBOT (CBOT) both accept stops and stoplimits, why does IB simulate these order types for one or both of these exchanges? It's no different than the "lesser" firms.

    That's the point.

Do you have a link indicating IB simulating orders are held on IB servers vs the users local machine?

  6. What are you talking about ? One of the links that you posted lists the following exchanges as ones where NATIVE stop orders are used

CBOT, CFE, CME, DTB, E-CBOT, EUREX US, FWB, IBIS, IDEM, ISE, Soffex, SWB, SWX, VIRTX

    http://www.interactivebrokers.com/en/trading/orders/stop.php

There are a couple of cases where it appears that simulated orders are being used when native ones may be available. If you are so concerned why don't you ask IB about it ? There may be a good reason why it is so.

It is a fact that simulated orders are held on IBs servers. This is easily demonstrated by placing any sort of non-marketable order, closing down TWS and then restarting. Your order will appear on the pending page. If you think that there is some trickery going on and orders are being stored in a file, then try logging on using another PC. The result will be the same.

Like a previous poster, I'm sick of these utterly uninformed 'IB sucks' posts. If there really are issues I, and I'm sure many IB clients, would love to hear about them. But most of the time it's just nonsense.

I get the same, except from all platforms, there is not one that is perfect, because we live in an imperfect world. If you truly knew how to trade, you would be in a winning position, even with system breakdowns. So either you are overtrading or have your stops placed too tight. Either way, you are not in control.

Also, if you tried running a platform, how would you react?

A disagreement is only looking at the same truth from a different angle.

You know where I stand on this, I will gladly continue paying $1 more per RT in order to have peace of mind. You get what you pay for.

Just remeber it is the government that owns the systems whether under the name of NT, RT, TM, TA, TS and so on. Everyone else only runs the systems.

If they don't like you or want to eliminate you, then they will, because they own it.

Anyway, how will TM be now with Mann Financial?
