I was on the wrong side early in the Morning. Salvaged the trade, but did not feel good enough to continue trading real money. Here is the simmer result.
Just stumbled into this thread. Almost fell of my chair when I saw a comment that Kiwi is not HSI trader. What Kiwi wrote is absolutely true, I traded this contract from spring time up to late summer when all this craziness began. The spread used to be 2-3 ticks on average, and I got little slippage (I only trade with market orders). Then the spread increased to 5-7 on average and often higher then this, and I started to get serious slippage even with 1 contract trades. It looks like nothing changed since it was opened to main land, based on what I read here. I live in New York, and hours and volatility (when it used to be normal) was my main attraction to this contract. I used to trade DAX before and I am back to trading it now, once I stopped trading HSI. I am not saying that you can not trade HSI, but it is definitely for more brave then me. My first rule is to protect myself from losses, and only then making profits. Another, really interesting market is South Korean KOSPI index, but it is not allowed for US residents for now. It could be approved by CFTC this year, but it is just a rumor. KOSPI options, which can be traded like we trade futures, have more daily volume that S&P emini. Regards, redduke
I don't know where you, or kiwi, got the idea that I called him a non-hsi trader. LOL. You guys have a reading disability. If you look at the spread value in terms of daily average range. (the numbers are pre recent high volatility.) You can see the spread value is very similar. But the HSI spread tick count tend to scare off the amatures because they have a psychological handicap that 5 ticks is a lot more that 0.25pts. Code: range spread value hsi 700 5 0.007142857 es 22 0.25 0.011363636 ym 240 2 0.008333333 if hsi increase the spread by 1 tick, the value is 0.001428571 of the avg range. if es increase the spread by 1 tick, the value is 0.011363636 of the avg range. if yn increase the spread by 1 tick, the value is 0.004166667 of the avg range. ES has the worst deal of the above three. HSI is a big contract. Not everybody can handle it. HSI is a fast market. Not everybody is comfortable with it. HSI is not ES. If you trade it with an ES mentality, you get slaughtered.
Hey ET, pretty impressive trading on HSI. I traded it for about 2 months or so sometime last year but stopped doing it because I didn't have the stomach for it. just wondering, how many points for and against you before you close a trade out?
It takes a special person to accuse others of reading disabilities when one clearly suffers spelling and memory disabilities. Perhaps the grandstander is also not attached to the truth?
This is what you wrote on 11/15/2007: just because you can't make money in HSI does not mean you need to get upset. Not everybody is skilled in this market; probably you aren't, therefore you should not be trading it. Thus you are a "non-HSI trader". If you want to be labelled "non-HSI trader", that's your business. Probably you aren't, at least not anymore. As you can see no reading disability here. I guess you kinda forgot what you wrote. I am glad that you find HSI tradable intra day and can do it successfully. Like I said, the way market is today it is for more brave then me to trade. The actual spread, not its value, and ability to get the least slippage that is possible is of most importance to me. I can not get it on HSI as it stand now. Regards, redduke
Hello, I am new to this forum as well as to HSI. I'm happy to meet HSI traders. I trade it with a CFD market maker. I must confess with less success till now, partly on my fault (greed, lack of discipline etc) but It's definitly what I want to trade for the moment. I await any info on HSI you may think worth sharing : Best Days and Time zones, indicators, volatilty levels and handling, correlated indices... By the way, I've been told that US semiconductors sector index and HSI may be correlated. Any experience or comment ? Thanks Yiehom
