    From a WSJ article:

"...In 1998, the American Bar Association performed a computer search of the federal codes looking for the words "fine" and "imprison," as well as variations. The ABA study concluded the number of crimes was by then likely much higher than 3,000, but didn't give a specific estimate.

"We concluded that the hunt to say, 'Here is an exact number of federal crimes,' is likely to prove futile and inaccurate," says James Strazzella, who drafted the ABA report. The ABA felt "it was enough to picture the vast increase in federal crimes and identify certain important areas of overlap with state crimes," he said.

None of these studies broached the separate—and equally complex—question of crimes that stem from federal regulations, such as, for example, the rules written by a federal agency to enforce a given act of Congress. These rules can carry the force of federal criminal law. Estimates of the number of regulations range from 10,000 to 300,000. None of the legal groups who have studied the code have a firm number.

"There is no one in the United States over the age of 18 who cannot be indicted for some federal crime," said John Baker, a retired Louisiana State University law professor who has also tried counting the number of new federal crimes created in recent years. "That is not an exaggeration.""

  2. What is your argument or opinion, should wages go down? Do you really believe minimum wage earners are making it without any help? Do you consider food stamps are considered help making it? Haven't you noticed the increase in older people (30 and up) working at fast food and other traditionally teenage filled jobs?

My response was to the argument made by your side saying if only the wealthy could get wealthier by paying less taxes it would help employment and wages and the economy. Well the wealthier have gotten much wealthier in recent years while the rest of the country has remained stagnant or lost ground financially, the wealthy having an increase in wealth has not resulted in the positive results as predicted by the trickle down crowd yet they keep preaching that.

  3. If you know or were threatened or have reason to suspect that the FBI are wanting to file charges on you or someone else and your lawyer recommends pleading the 5th then that would be a case where a person may have done nothing wrong and pleads the 5th. If told your actions you originally did in good faith can now be considered criminal this would be another reason. We probably all can agree it would be stupid to take the chance and "trust" the authorities.

    The very facts I posted.
No, but then I don't think wages should be regulated from Washington either.
Did you not read any of the factual study based statistics I posted - again?

  5. In federal cases, pleading the fifth is often the first step in negotiating an immunity deal. Lerner has a lot to lose, in particular a very large government pension. She won't say a word until she's guaranteed not to go to jail and not to lose her pension.

If that turns out to be true, it's an impeachable offense, and if proven he will be convicted. Nixon tried this, it was only one of his several crimes. He chose to resign rather than face impeachment and certain conviction. In the present case, however, all the evidence so far is to the contrary. It now appears that the Tea Party misrepresented itself to the IRS in an attempt to get "social welfare agency" status. Quite laughable were it not such a sordid violation of ethics. That seems to be what caused IRS eyebrows to rise.

I seems it will turn out, when all is said and done, that neither the White House, nor the Justice Department, had anything to do with this fiasco.

I don't know where you find your info but I haven't seen anything like that. Also, there are many conservative groups that that where caught in the IRS net. It's not just one Tea Party group. And individual and corporate donors supporting Romney were caught in the net. It went far beyond the slow processing of conservative 503(c) orgs.

It has also come out that the investigation was concluded 6 months before the election but was not released until last week. And, Obama's chief council and others in the White House knew what was happening according to Carney.

That's even before we get to the records violations under the guise of National Security against the AP and Fox New reporters.

I don't see any way for Obama to survive this if what has been announced is the truth.

The only thing that might save Obama is if it was the result of a culture of intimidation he motivated rather than specific actions he ordered with the aid of subordinates. Even then, the rest of his term will be extreme lame duck at best.

Obama tell you that himself did he? :)

More seriously, is this wishful thinking or do you have some inside dope you'd like to share with the rest of the country?

It seems poor little Miss Lerner has been suspended from her job while this blows over. With full pay, of course.

When even Nancy (Crazy Horse) Pelosi is telling you to talk you can pretty much figure out things are not going to go too well for you.

No evidence of any involvement yet. And the more this goes on the more it appears that if anything questionable was done, it was done by the Tea Party. I mean C'mon, Social Welfare Agency ???

IRS had to be a little pissed. I think the T.P. folks thought if they screamed loud enough to their buddies in the House they could get off the hook, but now it appears as though this thing might backfire on them.

So the information I have, is the same information everyone has by now. It took some time to come out, but now we all know: the Tea Party isn't really a political party, it's really a social welfare agency disguised as a political party!!:D :D :D

This is material for Saturday Night Live.
