There's already a war going on. This isn't an escalation, its just another action. As far as resistance to Israel is concerned, the word suggests Israel are continuously pushing their military or influence into other ME countries, rather than Iran: surely you don't intend that? Surely its Iran which is the ME state most active outside its own borders?

Read our history in the area back to the sixties. In all ways, and at all times, we have been the assholes in this saga.

The Iranians have every reason to hate America. We created the monster.

Not sure how you figure that. Iran is far more mountainous that Iraq was - which means we can't just steamroll our tanks through the country like we did in Iraq. Then you have the fact that Iran has submarines with torpedos and mine-laying capability. Don't forget that Iran was the 2nd nation to ever use drone bombing technology - before the US, but after Israel. Iraq and Afghanistan had no drone or submarine technology. Also, Iran is an industrialized economy more closely resembling southern Europe than somewhere like Afghanistan. They have the capability to crank out weapons systems.

After watching the US try to win groundwars in Vietnam, Iraq 2, and Afghanistan, I am very skeptical that this would be "short and sweet".

From the statistical point of view ... since 1776 the US have been at war 93 % of the time – 222 out of 239 years. What a nation :)

Why would there need to be a US-led war in Iran in the style of 19th century inter-nation wars? There are only two reasons to invade another country -
    1. to neutralise their plan to invade your own
    or
    2. to take permanent control of their territory and population

    Neither applies.

The "war" with Iran is already on-going.

Shamefully, the UK's Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said the UK "recognised the aggressive threat" Gen Soleimani posed, but "further conflict is in none of our interests".

Whereas he should have said "Well done US, for elimination of a skilful and dangerous enemy military commander".

So, the Iranians and their proxies attack a US base in Baghdad, Iraq, got their asses bombed then, attacked the lightly, defended US Embassy in Baghdad. Now, the US goes after the head of the snake and all extreme liberals attacking the US for being the bad guy? You should be thanking the US for getting rid of one bad actor. This same guy was teaching his radical Islamists and their assets in Iraq how to make those powerful IEDs that maimed and killed US forces in Iraq. In the Arab culture too, they respect strength and not weakness. If you are weak, they will just slit your throat. If you are strong, they respect you. Something the extreme liberals will never understand or know. President Donald Trump does not need to blow up the entire Middle East. A few missiles at opportune moments reminds them who is in charge.

Thankfully we have a leader who knows more than the generals, has kept the best people employed for the job around, and will totally not escalate to territorial attacks once the Iranians retaliate.

Yeahhhhh. Just trotting around the globe, imposing a ideo-theological oligarchy upon the helpless masses, just to rape/pillage and leave them with nothing but school buildings and a voting franchise. Bastards. :wtf: Who needs personal Liberty when there are souls to scoop up?!?!?

You'd think, though -- were we so bent on territorial acquisition, that there'd be more territory flying our flag. Hmmmmm.
