There's some truth to that. Witness the "I'm outta here first...women and children be damned!" attitude of the Italian cruise ship. It's a 180 from the days of the Titanic, where one man, after saving every woman/child he could, donned a tuxedo to "die like a gentleman."

There are a lot of unintended consequences to the societal changes over the last 100 or so years.

  2. The Man in the Glass

When you get what you want in your struggle for self

And the world makes you king for a day,

Just go to a mirror and look at yourself,

And see what that man has to say.

For it isn't your father or mother or wife,

    Who judgment upon you must pass;

The fellow whose verdict counts most in your life

Is the one starring back from the glass.

He's the fellow to please, never mind all the rest.

For he's with you clear up to the end,

And you've passed the most dangerous, difficult test

If the man in the glass is your friend.

You may be like Jack Horner and "chisel" a plum,

And think you're a wonderful guy,

But the man in the glass says you're only a bum

If you can't look him straight in the eye.

You may fool the whole world down the pathway of years.

And get pats on the back as you pass,

But your final reward will be the heartaches and tears

If you've cheated the man in the glass.

  3. It is part and parcel of the long-running conspiracy to weaken America and neutralize its former world leadership by male example. We forget that the Latin root of "virtue" is "virtus", strength. There are no pussies at the gun range, including the tough-minded women practicing there.

  6. My biggest regret is that I have fantastic intuition but can't act upon it. Analysis paralysis plagues me at times.

  7. You're not alone. common among men. Women act on intuition.

That's not far from the truth.

In a recent article by an experienced hospice nurse, she wrote that the most frequent expressions she heard in the last moments of life included references to the patient's mother or father.
