The thing with tarrifs is that they increase the price of goods. The reason the US buys stuff from other country's is that they don't have any themselves or can buy it cheaper than they can make it. Throwing a tarrif on goods just means the the cost of those goods increases for the US consumer. How the hell does that benifit anyone?

tariffs and subsidies are dead weight losses. No benefit other than protecting/aiding national industries. Countries trade with one another because of comparative advantage. All the US needs to do is see how other countries that impose tariffs are affected.

I think one of the downsides for the US is that country's that have relied on the US as a customer will now find other markets for their products making it more difficult for the US to negotiate favorable prices.

I don’t think it’s that easy to find other markets except in commodities.

what will happen instead is that these companies will pass on the higher prices to the US consumers while domestic suppliers will also raise their prices. The consumers get squeezed in the end. Meanwhile, the other country will retaliate with tarrifs of their own which will essentially lock out American companies from those local markets leading to job cuts here.

The only American winner is the domestic manufacturer who sells into the US market against Chinese competition. And he earns on the back of overstretched consumers.

The reason they were "bought up" is cause he is all over the place with tariffs. I wouldn't be surprised if he is using it to enrich his family. Eric and Cokester JR load up cheap shares and then Daddy "truths" about it after markets are closed.
