  1. Agree the "mc" thing doesn't make sense with what we know about physiology. They were using bad form in one exercise that they thought was going to work, or a bad machine that really didn't load the muscle effectively and when they switched up to another diff exercise saw results and attributed the new found gains to "mc".

There other reasons too I can think of won't comment on all because of time contraints but here's one ...unwittingly overtraining on bicep curl for one example, stopping bicep curls starting another such as pulldowns or deadlifts or a "poorly designed" bicep machine, and bang..the biceps grows! But overtraining, and improper recovery rather than "mc" led to new found gain.

  2. I'm not sure I understand. Are you saying that overtraining and inadequate recovery are good for muscle growth? If so, I'm afraid I disagree.

  3. Poorly worded, my bad. I meant perhaps overtraining led to stagnation, they switched to another exercise that wasn't as effective at producing results in the muscle group, saw gains but mistakenly atrributed their new results to the new exercise. But wasn't, it RECOVERY allowed by the replacement exercise that isn't really that great. But the result attributed to "mc" is in error.

Does this clear up my poorly written explanation?

  4. I agree that the kipping pull ups are a waste, but I am of a different opinion about the burpees. Done correctly they a very good exercise and are used by many athletes during their training. The problem is people try to do them too fast. Again, there are many in the CF crowd stuck on how many in the shortest time possible. CF is, IMO, very beneficial when the routines are done correctly. Like anything else, there are people believe otherwise.

  5. Not talking about "beneficial", let's talk effective & efficient. Any form of activity is better for the couch potato but setting aside the social aspect how is CF better than conventional weightlifting in ANY parameter?

What's better at achieving fitness goals throwing & catching a medicine ball against the wall or 3 sets of strict barbell presses and a hard run? Given this, the latter may be boring...to many.

  6. I've never done burpees because they don't appeal to me. Occasionally, I see people at my gym doing them, but I have yet to see someone do the push-up part properly. They seem to phone that part in. I gather it is a cardio-type exercise, since you don't get the chance to work any particular muscle group to exhaustion or failure. Rather, it causes generalized fatigue/exhaustion.

I agree with your comment that CFers are concerned more about the numbers rather than the form, but there are also "exercises" that I don't think have much of a targeting effect on any particular muscle group. From what little I have seen and read of CF, there is little or no discipline. And I echo Baron's sentiment that there are two types of CFers: those who have already hurt themselves and those who will.

  7. Exactly. Given that we need more recovery as we get older, I'd rather get the best bang for the buck possible rather than waste effort on unfocused activity.

Of course, there are those who will say that you don't need 3 sets of the same exercise... :)

  8. LOL exactly. That's why burpees were invented, strict pushups keeping tension on are ...hard.

CF is all about...relieving the tension. Pain. Proper exercise is harder and more painful than most want to experience. Enter CF...into the void b/w
