It's called passion my friend but I guess you had that in mind as well? Passion makes even a tough job enjoyable. In my 14 years at several banks and hedge funds as trader have I not looked even once on my watch to check when to go home. Not even one single time. And I don't remember when I was ever sick (I believe sometimes, not always, sickness highly correlates with our emotional and psychological state of being)
Not sure you are on the right track here. I don't believe most of the wealthy are intrinsically motivated to work in order to get richer. There is a sense of being at the right place, enjoying what one is doing that IMHO drives most of the successful people.
I spend most of my day outside, either gardening or doing some work around the house. When everything is completely finished, I will then be spending 2 hrs per day trading - not a minute more, from 09:30 to 11:00 NY time. J_S
@Sure Chap I would imagine that these rare people probably fall into one of three categories: They like the financial security of trading with other peoples' money vs. their own They have audacious financial goals that are easier to get to by having a job and income on the side They enjoy the job Just kidding, #3 may be a myth . But that's what I'd postulate. I'm not that person so I can't say more.
Quit and retire...then do what -- watch TV all day. All successful people do what they do...because they genuinely love it. I don't think you'll ever meet a successful person who did what they did purely for the Money If those people did exists...then Michael Jordan, Bill Gates, Tom Cruise, etc etc...would all retire into oblivion in less than four or three years.
You should send that question to Buffet. Those who have spent like forever in this field often times have limited hobbies or any at all, in my case I have always had multiple revenues going on. I have had very few employments where I thought they were work and once they did, I quit. I now only trading systems along side of newly programmed automation systems. Once I feel they working right, I will be done manually scalping, quite possible for life as I don't enjoy as I once did, I think 31 years of it is enough. I like the research part much more, long term trading and option writing. Few more weeks I am guessing and done with it and most of the other systems already automated. I have many ideas I want to test out for longer term and how to get risk down to almost zero. And getting tired of all the negative assholes on this site to boot, disgruntled retail small traders, they don't have much of a pot to piss in so they lead shitty negative life. They lead such a miserable life, their only enjoyment is putting down others and yet they are afraid to look in a mirror and see what they have become. They seldom have anything worthwhile sharing that is usable for trading, just garbage mouth, anyone that been good in past have left. Your trading can only get better by learning with those who are better. Very very few here and ones that are good, I seldom contact on this site but by email. I don't play golf, I like puzzles and I like taking money.
