Having been in a trading room for some 4 months, the other traders tend to trade other instruments and different strategies. In my experience the others' chatter was more distracting than helpful, I am most effective in quiet isolation. Reading all the topics I realized that I'm very suited for isolated work and I almost never miss social interaction ("almost" because I cannot ignore the sexual desires of course), then again I've always dreaded social situations.

  4. Stay at home......be very THANKFUL you have that option! Every once in a while go out and hang with other traders at their trade office or go meet them at your favorite establishments (many do that here in Austin, TX).

When it is 3:00 am and I am trading the DAX on occasion (or a currencies set up), I am sure in the heck glad I do not have to go to some office! Once you develop your own strategies that are very profitable, it is almost best imo to stay "solo" and not have distractions during the trade day. If you are new to trading and do not yet have functioning profitable strategies, then it makes some sense to embed yourself in a trade office with other successful traders (for a while at least as your learning to build a profitable strategy......months or years).

If you do trade from home, I think it works best if you have a dedicated trading room/office separated from other distractions or living areas.....just my $.02

My experience with this is that most traders suck and they end busting your balls for trading tips or info as they inevitably quit or blow up.

I highly recommend you demand proof of profitability before accepting anyone, otherwise, they become a pest.
