If the car manuf's go bk they can toss out the union contracts... maybe that's what they need to do. On the same number of cars sold Toyota makes as many billions as GM loses. Unions cause costs not only in wages and benefits but in morale, sabotage, etc... Ford did an unusual thing about 1980, they gave the unions everything they wanted in many areas, they partnered with them essentially to help with management and Ford is the only one of the big 3 to not be needing a bailout.. I never heard where GM did anything like that...
GM has been losing money for years. Don't you think they have wanted to turn themselves around for years now? So, into the worst recession since 1940, the worst car market in 20 years, GM is going to turn itself around now? and pay for it with a 5% loan? sure some union concessions will help, but lets get realistic, GM is in serious trouble.
