  1. Census shows 1 in 2 people are poor or low-income

WASHINGTON (AP) – Squeezed by rising living costs, a record number of Americans, almost 1 in 2, have fallen into poverty or are scraping by on earnings that classify them as low income.

  2. Interesting what is considered "Poverty" in this country. A family of 4 making $45k per year ($3,750 per month) and thats poverty? About 2 years ago, I saw this woman in the philippines who had 10 children and she earned $300 per month, but somehow she was able to make that stretch to feed all those kids, plus pay her rent. Of course all she could feed them was things like rice and half an egg each, but they still ate everyday. To me...THAT is poverty. In the US, not being able to afford food because you have 2 car payments, living in a 2,000 sq ft 4 bedroom house with deluxe premium satelite TV and high speed internet service is NOT poverty.
