Rockstar reeling at row over sex scenes in game GUY DIXON THE future of one of the world's biggest computer games companies has been thrown into doubt over "hidden" pornographic content in one of its blockbuster games. Rockstar, which has an office in Edinburgh, said hackers had altered the game's code to allow players of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas to view sex scenes. Senator Hillary Clinton, wife of former US President Bill Clinton, has asked the Federal Trade Commission to look at the game's content and examine the adequacy of retailer enforcement policies. The US game industry's self-policing unit, the Entertainment Software Rating Board, is investigating whether New York-based Rockstar violated the industry rule requiring "full disclosure of pertinent content". If the company is found to have acted improperly, it may be forced to recall the game. One industry insider said: "If they are forced to recall GTA: San Andreas over this, the company is doomed. They cannot afford this." Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is the latest incarnation of a game which lets players steal cars and shoot characters, including gang members and police. Some have questioned whether the game has inspired several violent attacks and murders in the US. A spokesperson for Rockstar said it supported efforts to keep mature-rated video game content out of the hands of young children. The first version of Grand Theft Auto was developed in Dundee by Dave Jones, who was then working at DMA Design.
