Time it takes institutions to move size

  1. Hi guys,

I'm hoping that someone with an institutional background (and please, no speculation -- factual contributions only) wouldn't mind sharing how long it takes to move big size.

For example, say a fund has 1 million shares of a stock that does 1mil shares per day. How long would it take them to unload this position in the open market (as opposed to negotiating blocks upstairs)? I'd like to be able to produce a simple formula for this, something like:

[(position size)/(avg daily vol)] * 10 = time in days required

...in the event that it would take 10 days to move the block in the above example.

    Thanks in adv,
