Not sure why you're getting so much flak for this position. Many Americans are "single issue" voters who would do the same, seemingly illogical, switch if their fav candidate, say the anti-abortion guy, is not going to run or has no chance to win.

Edit: now here's a question. If Obama decided to not run, and the republicans put up a black candidate, would all those blacks who voted Obama switch party preference?
