  1. Cutten you have explained elequently exactly my theory of where to use close stops.

I am away on my boat for 6 days and will be leaving in 15 minutes - I am turning off my network as soon as I send this post in.

Scientist it is amazing how you have tried to be civil to the likes of the defrocked priest with his attitude but then that is how I find you and I don't see any arrogance all I see is a guy who knows more about this business of trading than 97%.

BSAM no I am not going to give you that fix you desire in this post. The last page or so of this thread has started to bring out some intelligent discussion for a change.

All the best boys I'll see if this thread is still alive when I return.

  2. you should consider expanding your experiences, then, because "scientist" is a fraud - and i do use that term deliberately, in its fullest implications, and with full knowledge. at some point we should have a full discussion on Gilmore's best bud, the "astro-cycle-trader" Pesavento...

I haven't really posted on this board for a long time as 90% of what is discussed here is bullshit. Now and again I will search for the 10 that isn't though.

This thread has compelled me to post though because I can't believe the frankly pathetic behaviour of some of the people on here. Why would anyone want to go to a website to abuse strangers you'll never meet, call them names, and then pretend to ignore them while you eagerly await round 2 of the verbal jousting, (Dado Wallener, ElectricSavant, BSAM, WaveTrader, in particular). Why don't you guys just tell each other that you smell of poo, that way we can really bring it to a playground level!

I'm absolutely amazed at some of the things I've read here of late. I have no truck with anyone here or grievance for that matter but as an outside obsever of this thread, it appears to me that some people are desperately wanting some help with their trading but aren't humble enough to ask outright, so they draw attention to themselves by being deliberately antagonistic.

I won't go into one, but some of you here have acted like 12 year olds and it really does look sad to anyone coming here and reading this thread. Can people please just drop the personal vendettas and pathetic insults and actually talk about trading now?

I've been a full-time trader for over three years now, with mixed success. For what it's worth I think you can spot the posts by real traders who are trying to help others. When I have read some of the posts by the likes of Scientist and Cutten, I have had an immediate connection with what they have said. I know what they are saying is real because I go through the same experiences every day. I have the same outlook and thoughts, as anyone would if they really traded these products each and every day.

It's no wonder that good traders don't often come here to give advice if all they are going to receive is accusations and abuse. If you don't agree with what they are saying that's fine, being insulting is just a waste of everyone elses time though. To the guys who are actually contributing to this and the other useful and illuminating threads on ET, I hope you are not dissuaded and continue to share your experiences.

One last thing, the vast majority of very successful traders that I have witnessed make a lot of money, have rarely used stops as LARGE as 6 ticks, depending on the contract. Also many don't like to see their trades go offside at all. Unfortunately my own trades seem to enjoy being offside so this is not really an option for myself. :)

Hold up a second Stratcat, before my name comes out of your mouth again I think you better review this whole thread. I can see where reading this thread would become disgusting to you. I agree. It became disgusting to me many pages ago. I do believe when some individual like this Wavetrader2004 shows up and starts talking down to people, his comments should be responded to. When you come on here and start talking down to people, you're going to get negative responses.

Wavetrader got EXACTLY what he deserved, regardless of what he knows about trading. What rule says that a really good trader (if he is a good trader) has a license to be rude or condescending?

Yes thank you, one thing I do know after 3 years is what a tick is. I have hardly ever traded the ES although I do watch it and I'm aware of it's volatility.

I have however traded Tnote, Bund, Bobl, Schatz, Eurodollar, Euribor, Gilt, Short Sterling, EuroStoxx, EUR/USD, and I would say that different pain thresholds are required for each of these markets, depending on your style.

At the end of the day everyone is different, most of the guys I've seen trade (200 or so), don't see things offside by more than a tick or two and just try to ride the trades that go onside for a few ticks. There are those who make good money every day by trading into strength/weakness and just averaging as they go further offside hoping it doesn't trend.

I never had the stomach for this though. Always surprised me how little these guys ever get burnt.

  8. To add some more wisdom to this thread: It was very common for the ancient male Greeks to have a "male pupil lover" on the side.. weird but true.

Hi BSAM, actually your name never came out of my mouth, but I did type it and having looked over the thread I think it was harsh to lump you in with the others. You weren't abusive, just provocative, and I do agree that Wavetrader does not help his cause by turning up and using words like idiot, moron, imbecile, etc in every other post. Totally unnecessary, either help people gladly and ignore the monkeys, or go somewhere and learn to grow up.

I think generally there is a high level of abuse on this site, and it just baffles me that people would spend so much of their time undertaking such a pointless excercise. Of course there is a benefit to it for them, as it gives them a sense of self importance and they can read over their posts and reflect on how witty and clever they are. Actually, nothing could be further from the truth as I can't think of anything more banal. Why come here for the sole purpose of flaming virtual strangers? I mean to actually go out of your way to make this your hobby!

I've spent today (Sun) nursing a bit of a hangover and reviewing a lot of the archived threads at this site. One of the people that I looked up was Scientist and his previous posts. There were a lot to get through, but I was shocked at how many posts of his were replies to people flaming him for no apparent reason. I've just read 2000 of the posts by this guy and the content is remarkably consistent. Now I've no way of verifying anything he has said but I will say that he hasn't ever made a ridiculous claim or touted for customers, or altered personal information about himself in 2000+ posts. Sure, his views and methods have changed somewhat and it is interesting to observe the metamorphasis after the event.

I also noticed that my first ever post here (months ago) was replied to by, guess who? Sure maybe everyone on here is a lying bastard but I'll give anyone the benefit of the doubt until it's proved otherwise, especially someone who has spent a lot of time replying to and helping others. I just finished reading The Great Gatsby again, which is one of my favourites, and it reminded me of the flaming on this site and how quick people are to judge others.

Anyway I think I have a good idea as to who is a genuine trader on this site just from reading the posts. I have come back to this site to renew my interest in the job and because I think I can both contribute and learn a few things. Maybe if we kept these boards civil we could all learn something.

  10. I agree. I have been here since Scientist started posting and hes one of the few posters here that I have a high regard for. He will hit back but generally only if provoked. The main thing is that I have learned things from him and thats what this board should be about. Most of those flaming him have posted zilch of interest.
