Every morning I try and say these to myself..it tends to start my day off on the right foot. "Judge not lest ye be judged" "The strain of constant judgment is intollerable" "Do unto others as you would have done unto you"
Do you seriously do that? I would have thought it is a big ask, trying to, much less actually doing a mantra like that every morning. I normally manage "urrrgh" before pondering how strong my coffee should be, but i tend to have appalling nightmares too. On the topic of judgement, i recalled my comments on Ledgers performance in "ned kelly", a great film, and an even more convoluted story in its details. Who, was guilty of what? This brought me to this guy, Breaker Morant, found guilty of the summary execution of some boer fighters during the boer war. The wiki is perhaps accurate, who knows, maybe he wasn't a hero, but damn it was a GREAT movie. This is the guy; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breaker_Morant And this is the movie; A fantastic movie, with great performances, and i think brings into stark relief the flaws in the idea of basic christian non- judgementalism. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breaker_Morant_(film) When you leave that aspect of your life to someone else, or a church, anyone, you sign away your human integrity to some degree i think. That doesnt apply to indahook's statement of course, im just saying i havent found a mantra to help me in this manner, and i find it intriguing that some do. Check out "breaker morant", it was a fantastic movie. "Shoot straight, ya bastards!!!"
oh my Ac, we are only at the Breaker Morant phase. I'd say you are in the late eighties. keep going, I really liked American Beauty call when you get there! ~ stoney PS What of Apocalypse Now?
Lol, its just a classic, thing's dont have to be remade, shrink-wrapped or have a use- by date to be good. Except dairy, have to be careful with that. Thought for the day; Advertising. You ever see those classifieds clangers that just dont sound right? Saw one the other day, for some sort of vehicle, read something like; "Excellent condition, roadworthy, reliable. mags, cd/mp3 player. Motor is seized up, needs top end work." Huh?
Ac- on advertising, have you seen the new Kentucky Fried Chicken ad? It's " Wings Without The Sauce! " Yes they took something away which they usually give out for free and have created this great new product- " Sauceless Wings".... " Donut Holes " started this years ago some mindless worker realized that he could pick up all the crappy dough off the floor after the donuts were punched through and re market them to stupid consumers... they might as well of called it " Floor Trash. " Another great bit of trickery are the snack packs that we are all supposed to send our kiddies off to school with.... sure divide a regular size box of Cheetos in half and then wrap that half in twenty mini bags and end up charging 1000% more.... for half the original bag.... Ahhhh America. Non of this of course bothers you in the bush where the generator purrs and the old film spools are revved up with Breaker Morant playing daily. I must say I remember that film being very Das Booty, a little on the boring side- there was a nice film called Battle For Algiers, maybe give that a try too... I'm into the films... Little Big Man with Duston Hoffman might be a good one for you today or how about Three Days Of The Condor? ~ stoney
Maybe it's just me, but the internet often reminds me of NBC, ABC, and CBS. When you research and use google, seems like all the same crap floats to the top. I understand much of this may be the way the search engines function. Entering different keywords, often doesn't produce much better results. If one should be so lucky and find a forum or a FAQ chat, many of the replies are useless, ie, "I'm not an expert but you need an expert". What surprises me, is the fact how the internet is used by "millions" of people" but where is everybody? Two people might reply to a question that is 5 years old. Links are broken, pages expired. Often times, using various approaches, days later I end up going in a large circle, back to the same web sites where I started. With nothing new or learned in between.
Yeah, I've noticed that too. I've searched for months for a diagram that shows exactly how to set up a heedle on a backstrap loom. Not just any heedle, but one that will separate the threads a good inch and a half. And of course, a diagram and instructions on how to exactly set up the threads. It's frustrating. Oh, and I've been searching the Internet for diagrams / plans on building a 17th century spinning wheel. You know, the small floor model with the treadle. I've seen the pictures, but I haven't yet found any plans. Just going around and around in circles. I know, I could just go buy some books. But that ain't the point.
Heh, never heard "das booty" in that context, a german site maybe....... Boring, no its "dramatic" in film speak Like dances with wolves, you know.........................ok, boring. Yeah, the internet-i often check my bookmarks, look things up out of interest, and i find myself thinking, "gee, there's nothing on". Until i found this site, maybe i posted it before, never know with my memory. Want a site where crap doesnt float to the top, but sinks? A solution to the commercial plastic wrap culture? An engaging hobby, or a sustainable organic lifestyle? Check this out. http://www.backyardaquaponics.com/ The forums are full of info, check it out.
Stoney, you just got a place in the country, how is that going? Does aquaponics look like something you could do? You could hire an illegal or two, keep things ticking over, could be great. (dont look at me like that-most farmers use their kids for slave labour, this seems ethical in comparison)
most farmers use their kids for slave labour, this seems ethical in comparison) ------------------------------ One might look at the industrial revolution where people worked 6 days a week, 12 hours a day, lived in company housing and shopped at the company store, as slave labor. These conditions were probably much more comfortable than being a farmer, at least you had a day of in factory and unlikely to be kicked in the head by a cow during working hours.
