The southern poverty law centre is a joke, Mark Potok is a snot nosed little weasel who got beat up as a kid, who is now seeking his vengeance by labelling everyone who he disagrees with terrorists. He tried to put Dr. Ben Carson on their extremist watch list and they got laughed at so badly they ended up taking it down, thats all you need to know about the southern poverty law center, They put a world renowned neursurgeon on their "extremists" list just because he is a highly successful black guy who wasnt toeing the line with the liberals "Blame whitey" meme.

When this is the leader of your group its time to rethink your positions.

I find it absurd that the SPLC has labeled one of the most well-known illegal immigration PACS (Americans for Lagal Immigration PAC - ALIPAC) as a hate group and attempted to shut it down (by demanding PayPal not allow transfers, etc.). ALIPAC is a non-violent, diverse organization that supports anti-illegal immigration legislation at the federal & state level. I take it that the SPLC sees opposing illegal immigration as being hateful. This shows the absurdity of the SPLC agenda.

"The SPLC is fully aware of our many appeals for Americans of all races to unite and work together peacefully on this issue. The SPLC is fully aware that ALIPAC is a racially inclusive organization, and that a substantial percentage of our supporters are minorities. The SPLC is fully aware that ALIPAC has openly and eagerly worked with minority organizations and leaders. The SPLC is fully aware that I have a background in registering and transporting minority and student voters and working to elect women and minorities to public office in the '90s. The SPLC is fully aware that we never intentionally work with any racist or violent groups or individuals, and you are aware that we have publicly spoken out against racism and racist groups and individuals on numerous occasions.

In your efforts to libel us and defame us on behalf of your political agenda, you have excluded all of this information that you possess."

  3. Of course right wing assholes hate the SPLC......

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) is an American nonprofit legal advocacy organization specializing in civil rights and public interest litigation. It is noted for its legal victories against white supremacist groups, its legal representation for victims of hate groups, its classification of militias and extremist organizations, and its educational programs that promote tolerance.[2][3][4] The SPLC also classifies and lists hate groups—organizations that in its opinion "attack or malign an entire class of people, typically for their immutable characteristics."[5]

Sadly the SPLC has turned into the worst hate group in America. I can fully support their earlier work against real hate groups. However in recent years they have turned to targeting any individual or group whose opinion they disagree with. They target these people with publicity campaigns with the aim of causing violence to the individuals while intimidating them by demanding they be fired from their jobs, etc.

The SPLC has become a group that targets free speech of non-violent & non-hateful individuals. Free speech is one of the most important rights under our constitution.

Let's take a look at an example of a typical person the SPLC has targeted recently - Lou Dobbs. The SPLC listed Lou Dobbs on their Hate Watch list and demanded he be fired from CNN. The SPLC disagreed with his commentary on illegal immigration and therefore spent a significant amount of money and resources to target Lou Dobbs.

There are plenty of other recent examples of the SPLC trying to eliminate free speech and targeting peaceful, non-hateful people they disagree with politically.

The SPLC has become the exact example of what they should be opposing.

  9. It figures that the right wing assholes hate the SPLC

The SPLC reported that 784 hate groups were active in the United States in 2014, down from 939 in 2013[5] and 1,007 in 2012.[98] These included:

J.M. Berger, writing for Foreign Policy, disputed the 2012 numbers and said that after merging separate groups of similar names "the list of 1,007 becomes a list of 358".[102]

    *****************************

It makes the right wing a-holes angry because they identify with many of the above.

I agree, its absolutely asinine and also somewhat ironic that they label all these groups as hate groups, when they were the ones who were responsible for setting off the first terrorist, and almost getting a bunch of innocent people killed.

It does seem somewhat fitting that a couple of loons like dbphoenix and futurecurrents would put a lot of value into what a batshit crazy far left organisation like the SPLC thinks.

FBI Video: Family Research Council Shooter Admits He Used Southern Poverty Law ‘Hate Map’ to Track Down Target

The Virginia man who pleaded guilty to an act of armed terrorism and assault with intent to kill in last year’s shooting attack at the conservative Family Research Council said he got the idea from the liberal-leaning Southern Poverty Law Center’s “hate map.”

In FBI interrogation footage posted online Wednesday by the Family Research Council, Floyd Corkins II was asked how he found the organization.

“Southern Poverty Law lists, uh, anti-gay groups,” Corkins answered. “I found them online — did a little research, went to the website, stuff like that.”

A report earlier this year said Corkins told the FBI he wanted to kill anti-gay individuals and used the law center’s website to find targets, but this is the first publicly-released video of the interrogation.

Corkins fired three shots in the Family Research Council lobby, injuring a guard who still managed to subdue him. He was carrying nearly 100 rounds of ammunition as well as 15 Chick-fil-A sandwiches, in the news at the time for the company’s stance upholding traditional marriage. Corkins later said he wanted to kill as many people as possible, and then smear the sandwiches on the victims’ faces.
