This options stuff is easy

the broker requires me to read and understand a 150-pages booklet
before I'm allowed to trade options ....

 

That enables the broker to cover his @ss legally. It doesn't mean that you won't lose yours

 

Exactly. Similar situation: purchasing a B-B Gun vs. a Bazooka.
With a Bazooka, better RTFM, or else major damage is likely.
Same with options...especially short options.
