If (by some miracle) he is convicted on 3000+ counts of murder and sentenced to death, the anti-capital punishment crowd will then spend years and more taxpayer money as they argue that he should be analyzed and studied so that we may someday find a cure in pill-form for radical Islamists. Presidents are always careful to avoid repeating the mistakes of their immediate predecessors. Instead, they diligently find <i>new</i> ways to fuck up. Bush made sure to keep it in his pants, and Obama will make every effort not to torture terrorists or start unnecessary wars.
Perspective, Cap'n. America's soiled reputation in the international community gets an immediate boost with the announcement. The US will require the willing participation of other nations to help shoulder the ongoing burden of fighting international terrorism. A good start is to get off their shit list and back to civilization. Obama's cabinet will not be principally preoccupied with the closing of Gitmo and the processing of its inmates. And it is to happen within a year, anyway. But the important message has been sent. As a responsible world citizen, it will once again abide by the Geneva Convention. The announcement thus far required little in the way of time or money, and will not interfere with attention to other pressing matters. And, Obama delivers on one of his campaign promises. And now on to other matters...
