Actually it was the other way around. Dickie Cheney told the CIA to tell Bush that Iraq had WMDs so he and Bubba could invade Iraq, nevermind who might get killed besides Saddam, because they knew they weren't going to be the ones. Cheney went over to the CIA almost every week hounding them to sound more certain in their reports which said in effect we have no proof that Iraq has WMDs. We went from spending 76 million per year for Iraq oversight to 3 plus trillion -- the ultimate cost of the war when interest and vet benefits are included. We killed and maimed about as many as Saddam had, including many of our own young men and women. Why? Because Daddy Bush had been threatened by Saddam Hussein, the only person, it turned out, who was capable of keeping Iraq, a cobbled together country, from flying apart at the seams. The invasion of Iraq, besides violating international law, destabilizing the middle east, killing a hundred thousand innocent Iraqis and thousands of U.S. citizens, exposing the U.S. as a hypocritical, terrorist nation that tortures its enemies, and costing 3.5 trillion, was the worst blunder in the nation's history, eclipsing even the Vietnam War is shear stupidity.
