BLM has a national organization. BLM has chapters in nearly every state. All of these BLM organizations fund raise millions of dollars.

It is time that cities charged them for all the extra police time needed to control their protests. We charge nearly all other organizations for crowd control at their events; time to do the same for BLM.

Law enforcement spent $2.2M on Black Lives Matter protests in Raleigh

Area law enforcement agencies spent at least $2.2 million responding to Black Lives Matter protests in Raleigh in late May and early June, according to figures obtained over the last week.

The protests started in the wake of George Floyd's death while in police custody in Minneapolis on May 25.

Peaceful marches demanding more police accountability turned to riots and looting on May 30 and 31. Marches in subsequent days remained peaceful, but on June 19, protesters gathered near the State Capitol and pulled down pieces of a Confederate monument there.

The Raleigh Police Department said its officers worked nearly 2,350 hours of overtime between May 30 and June 8, at a cost of $860,011.

The Wake County Sheriff's Office deployed between 20 and 197 deputies to the protests each night between May 30 and June 6, racking up $399,048 in costs.

The State Highway Patrol spent $149,802 on the protests between May 30 and June 12, with troopers devoting almost 4,600 hours to the events.

Activating North Carolina National Guard members between May 29 and June 3 to respond to the protests cost $724,785 in active-duty pay.

The State Capitol Police spent $48,053 for its officers to help monitor the protests from May 29 to June 3.

State Alcohol Law Enforcement officers also pitched in, racking up at least $27,360 in pay.

The price tag will climb even higher as costs for protests after the first week or so of June are factored in – a protest outside the governor's mansion has been going on since Monday night – and as state agencies total up their overtime costs.

  3. Because Trump paid the local police for all the overtime needed for his rallies? What about the money spent on clearing the square so Trump could hold a Bible upside down....I am sure D.C. got a nice paycheck to cover all the costs...
